I worked at Shaw Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to chase profitable prospects, thinking outside the box, lively environment. This company is focused on "the next big thing" which is nice for an often stagnant industry.

    Cons

This is not the place for those who are dogmatic about processes and procedures are the traditional corporate environment. Remember it is an amalgamation of parts and understanding the history of the individuals is important to get along.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Now that it is sold to CB&I, it is going to be an interesting integration exercise. CB&I should not take this lightly.

    Pros

One of the best company's to work for, no matter what your title was you felt like what you did made a difference. Everyone worked really well together.

    Cons

Very high stress and fast paced work environment, a lot of times OT was mandatory. Unfortunately this company was bought out and the new CEO/VP's did not encompass that safe work environment

I worked at Shaw Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Large company with lots of opportunity for those who like to travel. The exposure to subject matter experts is incredible so there will never be a technical question left open. I worked for Shaw for 6+ years and really enjoyed my co-workers and the overall experience.

    Cons

The company is made up of multiple satellite engineering offices and the distribution of projects and, by default, exposure to new engineering opportunity became less and less evenly distributed across those offices despite relevant experience and competencies. The down side to not being willing to travel and not being located at engineering headquarters.

I worked at Shaw Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The people were very friendly and encouraging, made for a great experience, and they have great benefits! I worked for them for 5 yrs and would go back in a heartbeat if they had an opening in my field.

    Cons

The only con I had was that my project came to an end and I was discouraged to learn there were no openings at any of their other projects for a Training Manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget your past employees when staffing to fill future projects.

I worked at Shaw Group as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

great chance of advancement, Sound safety working environment and the learning potential is outstanding. Management is committed and responsible. Would love to the chance to work with them again.

    Cons

As in any maintenance / construction environment, the cons of any contracted company is The cons are dependent on the way the client views the contract company, I have been with several companies that the client could not find any better support and then there has been times that the client feels that the support has been forced upon them and is resentful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management should interact more with the core or working personnel. A little more recognition of individual achievements and tokes of appreciation for the employees.
