Oh the frustration that results from misplaced management.

Senior Level (Current Employee) Cartersville, GA

ProsThe security that comes from working for a company backed by Warren Buffet is nice. The only thing that beats that is a salary hourly position-yes paid OT. The Brand teams are smart and are utilizing the expertise of some talented and smart agencies. Great benefits. Lots of sincerely good people.

ConsMisplaced Management. Too many unqualified people in leadership positions. Lack of process and follow through. Reactionary. (Departmentally specific)

Advice to Senior ManagementSurvey departments/divisions (not just a multiple choice survey). You are missing vital feedback.

    Used to be great

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood pay and benefits.Overall I believe this is still a good company. Upper management (board level) has done a great job of navigating through this economy. The company has almost no debt.

ConsNepotism: This does not bother me when a person selected for a position of authority is competent and honest. That's just the way the world works. When the person of authority is incompetent and dishonest and no one will help because this person is well connected, it makes life miserable. We have been miserable since our current person of authority was placed in his or her position.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen you put someone into a position of authority please ask yourselves if you would want to work for this person.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

They will get their moneys worth out of you.

    Doffer (Current Employee) Chickamauga, GA

ProsThe pay at Shaw Industries is pretty decent to not have to have a college degree. They offer a really good benefits package with life insurance, medical, dental, and 401k retirement plan.

ConsYou have to fight your way to the breakroom to get a break. You work a steady twelve hour shift with barely getting to sit down for a minute to take a break (if your lucky). The vacation hours are not paid vacation its just time that doesnt count against you without pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou want to alow your turnover rate down make a way for your employees to have a undisturbed mandatory break at a certain time. Make people happy they will work better.

all production. no concern about quality

    Manufacturing (Current Employee) Cartersville, GA

Prosgood pay and benefits in a bad economy

Conseveryone is job scared and let too much go on that shouldn't happen. They won't listen to their employees and expect you to do impossible tasks. You can only do quality work if given enough time and help to accomplish the job. Too many employees slacking and refusing to do their job but management won't listen.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet out on the floor and see what's really going on...listen to people. Have time studies done on jobs.

It's a shame employees feel upper management is only concern about money but not the will being of their employees.

Warehouse (Current Employee) Three States, MO

ProsClose to my house, Good hours, Have opportunity to help our customers meet their needs.

ConsConstant changes of management giving you the feeling that you have to walk on eggs. One previous manager allow you to used your on mind to accomplish the job. While others wants to control every moved & decision you need to make.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you are going to have safety policies & procedures start holding your employees to do their job!

You Must By From This Area To Fit In!!!!

    Confidential (Current Employee) Dalton, GA

ProsGreat Executive Management!!! Especially the CFO. They will stop and talk to the average employee.

ConsSome departmetns are allowed to workfrom home and allowed flex schedules while other that could do the same are not allowed. Some Management believes in face time. Some are very mcro-managers. If you are not from Dalton, prepare to start looking for another job within 6 months. Do not sign a long term agreement to stay if they relocate you here. No where to live if not from this area. Building has cockroaches all over it. Recently made major changes to the bonus plan. Managers have their own favorites. Just bad overall moral. I would stay away unless like I said you are from Dalton.. There is nothing in Dalton, GA.

they don't care how long you been there

Credit Manager (Former Employee) Dalton, GA

ProsGood salarly, benefits, people are generally good to work with, not a lot of office drama

ConsThey don't care how long you been employeed, they will lay you off in a heartbeat. Basically you are just a number to them, they don't care about you as an employee

Advice to Senior Managementtreat all employees equal

If you are a "Good Ole Boy" this is the place to be...

Operations Management Trainee (Former Employee) Dalton, GA

ProsWell defined processes, real focus on engineering and process management, lots of places to move up to if you fit the "Shaw Mold"

ConsFavoritism, lying, still not sure how someone can work themselves up to an engineering position with no formal degree

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a really deep look into the recruiting and hiring processes in place by management - it's not always what it claims to be

Victim of success unable to reinvent in times of change, primarily from insular thinking and exclusive insider talent.

    Regional Manager (Current Employee)

Prosfinancial strength, Berkshire Hathaway parent, manufacturing expertise, distribution strength, industry dominance or monopoly with only two other competitors in soft surface flooring categories both residential and commercial

Conslarge organization bureaucracy, cronyism, market leader complacency, failed international business model, failing hard surface business, very poor revenue diversification, excessively complex systems and communication flow, excess market overlap amongst brands/divisions resulting in inter-company predatory selling, poor employee valuation and broken pay to performance

Advice to Senior Managementflatten hierarchy, fix pay to performance, shun yes-men surroundings, streamline communication, promote performers and unconventional/contrary thinking

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
