I have been working at Shaw Industries as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Pretty flexible hours, my boss wasn't too bad, excellent living conditions--very good intern/coop community, going through the coop program will most likely result in a job

    Cons

Nonexistent mentorship or career development, a lot of time devoted to repetitive tasks, Dalton is in the middle of nowhere

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Journaling, book list, mentorship -- try developing leadership skills.

I have been working at Shaw Industries full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The compensation is better than most companies for this position. For the most part the environment is friendly.

    Cons

The opportunity for advancement is often left up to the whole "who you know, not what you know" philosophy. If your a woman it's a "Boy's Club" and hard to break into.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I suggest management take into consideration personality types before forming teams.

I have been working at Shaw Industries full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Well known in the floor covering industry as well as being a part of Berkshire Hathaway. Freedom and independence for self motivated go getters in the sales field.

    Cons

Poor management with no sense of direction. To many chiefs with their own agenda trying to direct the sales force. A lot of flip flopping taking place. Management has not given the sales force a raise in the last 6 years, which is fine if you are selling and growing your business. The only down side to growing your business is having your territory cut and given to reps who are struggling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and listen to what is taken place in the sales field. You are all about surveys, how about finding out what your salesforce really thinks.
