I worked at Sheetz (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay, 401k, vacation and personal day, and pleasant customers.

    Cons

Very stressful work environment which makes for unhappy employees. Many people would complain about not taking breaking because of how busy and understaffed it would become. Unhappy, exhausted employees are not very productive. Many issues within my store that were ignored by HR. Favoritism, management dating employees, two types of harassment, and also discrimination against people with mental illness occurred.Often times one person took the fault for a whole teams' mistake, or only one person would be disciplined versus producing an effective plan for the team to succeed. In my store, certain tasks would fall on one shift or a singular person, making the store unaware of Sheetz procedures and standards. Letting go assets of our team for unfair reasons, and keeping toxic team members around. Many supervisors allow stealing nightly because they are too afraid to stop them or call authorities, and inventory effected our bonuses. I recently caught a thief. I went on vacation and other supervisors saw them while I was gone, but did nothing about it, I had to resolve issue when I returned a week later.. I am glad I do not work a company that does not care about every employee equally, and does not investigate situations properly.

    Advice to Management

Not every place is the same, but my advice is to be more aware of what happens in the store. Listen to your employees when they voice concern because Sheetz wants their employees happier punching in than out. Make your employee feel appreciated for their hard work and dedication. Teach understanding about mental illness instead of penalizing someone for taking an extra 5 minutes of break for anxiety issues/panic attacks, especially when being harassed by other coworkers.

    I worked at Sheetz full-time

    Pros

Base starting wages and salaries, everyone hired at same rate, assistant managers and higher salaried. Usually make great friends with co-workers.

    Cons

Inconsistent management, higher management incompetent (for instance, holding a district wide meeting, explaining some new policies the DM wants us to follow, go back to store and instruct staff to follow new policies, customer service issues arise during implementation, as DM was warned during meeting, DM gets customer complaints, DM calls swearing at management for issues with new policies, informs us to ignore them, it's just for show when the big boss is in town). Hours are always cut to below needs on every shift but the one's the store manager is working. When big boss comes to town, manager pulls three extra people to first shift to make sure it looks like he wants it, then he thinks, "store's running great on a 10% hour reduction, could probably even cut more from the budget!" Pay for management, assistants and above, no where near what is required for the work load expected. Expect to work long hours, be dropped from full time rolls, have your schedule reduced or changed at the last minute, be asked to stay late, have managers use the schedule as a weapon or reward, and to be required to come in to work with no regard to circumstance like weather, child birth, or death.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring outside managers that don't have any idea how we operate. We have an awesome and unique culture, and leading a team that is proud of that takes someone that was promoted from within. Support your in store team, realizing that they are your only connection to customers and that if they are unhappy, customers see it!

    Pros

I felt at the time I was hired that Sheetz did care and took care of their employees.

    Cons

I was a manager trainee and had to travel over 60 miles one way to work. The training was very unorganized and basically I was thrown in and do the best I could. The salary wasn't really that good either but I knew making bonuses it would improve.I missed during a 11 month span 2 days with a doctor note and 1 day because of a car wreck hitting a deer which I had to replace my car.I thought I be ok with the absentee policy but was later imformed that didn't apply to management, but a higher standard was. This wasn't in my training ,policy manual,NOTHING!!!! I was terminated for a policy that doesn't exit!!!

    Advice to Management

Good Training and TREATMENT goes a long way!!!!!

I worked at Sheetz part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly co-workers (for the most part), employee discount (only while working) is nice. QA bonuses and holiday pay rates are great. I really did not have many pros working at this employer.

    Cons

Raises for only a few years, and everyone makes the same amount regardless of how well they work. The managers crack the whip and expect you to work four times faster than you are humanly capable to do. You're also not allowed to take bathroom breaks that pull you from your work for more than a minute at a time....

    Advice to Management

Go easy on your employees. They are humans, not machines. When someone is going as fast as they can, yelling at them to go faster is only going to mess them up, not actually make them go faster.

    I worked at Sheetz part-time

    Pros

Team work. Sometimes. Not much I can even say.

    Cons

Low pay horrible long hours. Shift wars. Favoritism. Not a job fora person who has an education because Sheetz DOES NOT recognize a college education.

    Advice to Management

Pay more. The work we have to do is ridiculous. For the amount we are payed.

I worked at Sheetz full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Only pro you can have here is a good team (mostly), which was the only reason why I stayed for as long as I did (2y)

    Cons

This could be the store I was at, poor management leads to a bad job but here a few things about working here from my experience. Flexible hours: I was in College with more than 4 class at a time. I was promised 20 hours max a week and ended up with 25 plus 3/4 weeks of the month a couple weeks later after I was promised that from the 30 hours a week, any shift I did for 7 months to only evenings 3 days a week. What happened after I changed my availability? I work 9 hour shifts 5 days a week and 2 whole days to maintain my 4.00 GPA. If it wasn't for my ambition I would have dropped out of school. Which is one of the most important things to me. Stress-free environment: We had horrible management exception for a few, there were better salespeople then managers. They would force all requirements on one the two salespeople that worked (unless the store manger was working there were only 3 people in the store, one up front, in the back and the lazy shift supervisor) I was in the back making every order, unless I begged for help, I had to get everything clean (Fryer, MTO coolers, tables, dishes, trash, etc), make sure prep sheets (Bread, Pre-portions and backups) were done for the following shift was done because if I didn't I would be screwed the next day when my shift came along, which even with that I still was. Benefits: Unless you average 16 hour a week, you get none. Even with that the health coverage is only eye and dental which coverage for annual so if you have a cavity or need new contacts or glasses good luck paying for it with 9.25 an hour. Not until 12 months after you are hired do you get personal days or vacation days. Tuition reimbursement is a joke, lol. It wouldn't even cover my books and a class. Pay: Lets just say this, I have a job now paying me 13.50 for something thats less mental, physical and emotional work combined than this place. Best part? NO FOOD. No poor management and disrespectful orders thrown in your face to be made alone. You think thats a good pay for that then your meant to be at Sheetz BEST PART: Why I am not here anymore? Actually not because of any of that, surprised? I thought I was working for a great company until I left and realized for myself its a joke. I was terminated while a hospital bed actually. I was sick since last August with a bacterial infection and doctors notes for every call of I had to make, which was a minimum of 8 hours before my shift. They put your life on a point system, at 7 points you are terminated. Well I was in the hospital for 2 weeks that last August which put my at 6 points, even though I had doctors notes. March 10th I went to the ER and was fired the following day. Best thing that ever happened to me. Thank you Sheetz, for doing the only good thing for the past 2 years of being there.

    Advice to Management

Management: You not only ruin your own lives with the responsibilities of your title but force the people who look up to, the people you think are below you to ruin their own lives from mental and physical stress you take from your shoulders to theirs. If you want the title, and the extra pay then work for it, don't sit in a office chair as you watch others do the work for you.

    Pros

You'll never say "I had a boring day"

    Cons

Overwhelmingly busy. Absolutely non stop. You bust your butt your entire shift because you always have call offs and no one ever wants to come in to cover. Then you get yelled at for the things you didn't get done. Customers get mad when they have to wait for their order, doesn't matter that there was 20 people who ordered ahead of them, they give you bad surveys or call corporate and complain. Policies and workload are always changing, for the worse. Adding extra work and not allowing for extra staff. If you've got a thing for pain and suffering, and like to go home crying everyday for $10/hr, this is the place for you!

    Advice to Management

The district manager should have to work a 12 hrs shift, as the only manager on duty, in each store at least once a month. So they can get a taste of what it's actually like. They may then better understand why the floor in the break room didn't get mopped. Or why the cooler didn't get swept.

    Pros

Get gas but do not go inside

    Cons

Sheetz is awful when it comes to employee hiring policy. They promote inexperienced young people to positions that need trained individuals with prior managerial experience. When I heard a manager say that an employee exposed to hand, foot and mouth disease could continue to work with no hesitation , I lost it. This person has contact with food, customers, bathrooms, machinery, etc. it is just unbelievably ignorant. But after 3 years of employment it is really not a surprise. I would never buy anything other than gas from Sheetz. Public beware
