I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

It was a job when there weren't many open.

    Cons

The management will not promote from within, in the store I worked at, and had little respect for work/life balance. I felt it was mismanaged and micromanaged.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

fix the toxic staff morale, the low salary and the micromanaging.

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart (more than a year)

    Pros

discount, some hard working employees that care

    Cons

no annual raises or explanation if you are not getting one no performance review. Rx staff got raises front store never did. staff not treated equally Rx staff birthdays acknowledged, Rx eating candies baking etc never include front store staff. Reps only bring for Rx staff and associate ok with this only offered to front store staff it is no longer good. schedule maybe posted thurs before it starts if your are lucky. No health and safety committee or certified members at this store, management and owner do not care always an excuse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat everyone equal. Acknowledge staff who go above and beyond. Make sure schedule is 3 weeks as per Wfm.Treat employees with the same respect that you want yourself.

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart

    Pros

Pros : the chance to work with nice associates

    Cons

    Cons:
    1. You feel like your being used for working there, this company uses you until there isn't any more use for you.
    2. Hours you receive are a joke, part time you'll receive maybe 15 hours a week at most you'll get 20 Hours but beware managers love to cut your hours.
    3. Managers are so two faced ( all ) of them, nice and sweet to your face but then talk crap about you. Give the credit to someone else for the amazing job you've done while working there.
    4. Pay
    5. You never get any sense of accomplishment, you could get letters from head office for your hard work and your store owner will tell you that their shocked that it was you..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice would be to treat your employees like employees and not to favor people because it's unfair to other employees.
You never make any employees feel like there good enough, and it's sad because there are so many hard working people that work for you and give up so much and for what? To be used or treated like crap it's not right your suppose to be proud to say you work with a company and I can really say that I never did and a lot of others feel the same.
I've worked with two different shoppers and there all the same

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart

    Pros

The 30% Discount was a plus! I loved my customers :)

    Cons

The communication between Management and Employees was always different depending on who you talked to. Scheduling was ridiculous. 6 days on 1 day off! One night you close the next morning you open . They finally wore me out after 2 years of stress and low wage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house at this store! Take notice of the amount of people that have quit at this store over the last 2 years!!!!

Former Employee - Beauty Advisor in Ajax, ON (Canada)

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

. The discount of 30%.. Working in the beauty department has its advantages, getting free stuff from schools and gratis when sales are up in different categories..

    Cons

They say they have an HR Dept to help employees. That's bogus.. You complain about something and they tell you, the owner/pharmacist can do what they want, its there store. Your best to make sure you get the money you want to start, cause raises are hard to come by. .....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look after your people, treat them with respect and just maybe they will treat you with respect. People work for a living to provide for there families.. Or students are paying there way through school. The turnover is absolutely horrendous. I was a beauty advisor and many customers came in and said they were so sick and tired of finding the right beauty advisor and trusting them, and them be gone the next time they were in..

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

30% employee discount is always nice since for some Shoppers Drug Mart especially where I work that is the only incentives you'll get nothing more.

    Cons

I've been working for Shoppers Drug Mart for more than 7 years as a pharmacy assistant & yet seniority isn't being recognized by the associate. He would asked for the new people to work extra shifts or hours without asking the people who's been there the longest. No appreciation can be expected from the new associate whatsoever. I guess it depends on who your Associate is!!!! For him employees can easily be replaced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your employees since they're the ones who deals with the customers everyday to make sure that the store is up to par & to keep your business going.

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

If you are a manager, you can get good pay, bonuses, beneifts. Everyone else who work hard and smart get good recognition by the right managers. You have to have the right managers though to recognise talent.

    Cons

Very poor human resource team store and office wise. Workers from top to bottom are over worked and abused in the name of retail cultur. Some are underpaid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are into politics, join this organisation. VPs, DMs, GMs got/lost their jobs based on who they knew and who liked/hated them. Very sad but true.

I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

30% discount was nice for buying light groceries and cosmetics.
    Good hours
    That was about it.

    Cons

I found the store I was working at very "clicky" and had a high school mentality even though the majority of the people working there were middle aged women.
Training was awful, the manager quickly skimmed through everything and had to basically learn the rest on my own.
Store owner told me I was working to slow when I had only been there for a week and still learning where everything went.
High turn-over rate so being short staffed was something you had to get used to.
needless to say I only worked there for only 2 months because it was just simply awful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to take the time to train your staff properly and maybe they'll stay for longer than a few months.

I have been working at Shoppers Drug Mart part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Discount is great. 30% is above average for a discount off regular prices. The discard bins are really reduced and staff can tuck them away and buy later so customers don't get it first.

    Cons

They don't give the raise they promise after 3 months. Management are not professional. They gossip about their staff and other management behind their backs. No flexibility with the schedule at some stores regardless of asking for time off. There are no company values where I worked. They put up fake dates and times for huddles (which we never ever had) to pass an inspection from the Regional Manager. Staff could be late and nothing was said. We were robbed and the management didn't have a debriefing or send us home. Business as usual they say. Move on, it happens all the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop gossiping behind staff's and other managements backs. Be professional and lead by example. Recognize the good staff you have and discipline the ones that coast under the radar and do as little as possible.
