Prosthe job is very stable, not many layoff in the job. a company offers good benefits for long term employee.

Consconservative, since it is very big global company, it is very hard to see the overview of everything.

    Major Changes Every Two Years

    Energy Engineer (Former Employee)

ProsGreat benefits, great interaction between sales, project managers, and engineers. Workload seemed to differ greatly across the US (combination of managers' abilities and availability of projects).

ConsDuring my time at Siemens, the official name of the company changed from Siemens Building Technologies to Siemens Industry to Siemens Infrastructures and Cities; the name changes occurred about every two years. The changes often came with major reshuffling / layoffs as well as major shifts in focus which at times killed momentum that some teams were building.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide real feedback to employees rather than fluff. Even though my performance was consistently above average / excellent based on the reviews, I was still laid off along with other great employees during the last reshuflfe.

    Laid back place to work

    Engineer (Former Employee) Knoxville, TN

ProsVery relaxed environment despite many colleagues having advanced degrees and significant years of work experience. Very diverse work environment.

ConsSalary not competitive, "good 'ole boy" mentality when it comes to change, streamlining, or improving product lines.

Advice to Senior ManagementAdjust mentality away from "well this is how we've always done it."

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsLaid back, average raises and lots of luncheons

Consno room for growth, people stay for years so they stay in their positions for a long time leaving no room for people to move around

Gratifying experience despite the constant mind-numbing struggle against the hierarchical bureaucracy.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Knoxville, TN

ProsLarge stable organization with excellent leadership at the corporate level.

ConsOrganizational structure does not lend itself well to collaboration within the corporation. Despite attempts by several CEOs the Silos are as strong as ever.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagers can be most effective by identifying the obstacles to task accomplishment encountered by subordinates and then assisting them in overcoming or removing said obstacle whenever possible.
