Fair company. Good for young low level career, middle and senior level career average.

Field Services (Current Employee) Beltsville, MD

ProsDecent pay. Negotiate hard coming in because what you get is what you get...with a minor COLA every year. If you are a younger applicant just starting your career then it is an excellent move. As far as other companies in the sector and geographic location (DC/Baltimore metro) it is above average for pay but still below union scale.

ConsI.T. is horrible. Your computer/laptop is a detriment to production and is one step above a boat anchor. At time of this posting (September 22nd 2013) still using XP as the operating system. 30 minute boot times are not uncommon when connected to corporate network. I hate my company issued vehicle. It is not practical for the work I perform.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsolidate consolidate consolidate. In Beltsville Maryland there is an office full of people, if we really need that much overhead and management then there is an issue. Hopefully new CEO realizes no future in highly fragmented system. If your field service people spend a majority of time in their vehicle, some form of comfort should come into the equation. Then again the hardest seats on an airline I've ever experienced is Lufthansa. Maybe it's a German thing? Also Joe Kaeser is Chief Executive Officer, Siemens AG, Munich since August 1, 2013 anyone giving the former CEO a thumbs up should be questioned. Glassdoor needs to update this selection as my option is choosing a thumbs up or thumbs down for the past CEO.

Large proud company, with good products and dedicated workforce.

Systems Specialist (Current Employee) Hayward, CA

ProsOvertime opportunities abound, if you are a quick learner you will quickly be granted the freedoms to run projects. If you ask for help you will get it, everyone wants you to succeed.

ConsSome departments have had a high turnover rate and as such some groups have too few "experts". This can lead to you being asked to fill in until help arrives in the form of a phone call or onsite assistance.

    - The amount of communication can overwhelming and difficult.

Advice to Senior ManagementDisplay more urgency on change management. Focus on standardizing policies which will create less confusion among different business units.

Profitable and strong market position with foreseeable growth

    Mid-Level Management (Current Employee)

ProsGreat people, passionate about their roles and the company
Products and services that make a positive impact on the environment and the economy.
    Diversity at the lower levels

ConsSiemens is way too top-heavy and politically oriented. Decisions for the business are overshadowed by decisions for the political machine. Very little diversity at the top levels. No signficiant advancement possibilities for non-Germans.

Advice to Senior ManagementClean out some of the matricies

    Strong company with good values

Account Executive (Former Employee) Blue Bell, PA

ProsGreat Company with excellent training and management support. Superior products with very happy clients. Good office structure and support staff. Compensation is fair and they reward you for maintaining clients as well as obtaining new clients. Work and Family balance is there because management helps with all aspects of the sales.

ConsIf a sales representative is accustom to being self directed and independent the oversight from management might feel like you have lost some seniority. The management and operations department takes a lot of pride and responsibility for projects going well. They are not risk takers but the end result is a healthy portfolio with good jobs.

Advice to Senior ManagementGreat sales people don't go into management but should be treated as colleagues when determining sales strategies. Remember to help the sales people feel important in all aspects of the sale.

    Manager

    Manager (Former Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsThere are a lot of interesting projects you can work on and lateral movement is a big plus. If you know what you want to do, you can create a meaningful career path for yourself.

ConsThere are too many conflicting interests between business units. Sometimes the optimal solution is not executed because of backroom politics. In addition, it is difficult to get into senior management solely on performance alone.

Advice to Senior ManagementFigure out revenue sharing between business units and have a unified message of collaboration.
