I have been working at Siemens full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Solid benefits
    - Stable (I've never head of a layoff, even from people that have been there for decades)
    - Good work-life balance, no one will breathe down your neck to make you work, that must come from within you.
    - Perfect job for someone in their early 40s with family responsibilities and impending college costs.

    Cons

It is a Very big company, which means:
    - Difficult to know if you are really having an impact.
    - Difficult to stand out and move up. You won't win friends with innovative methods, there is already a triple-reviewed standard workflow that must be followed.
    - If you are young, hungry, and motivated, this is not the best place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Design decisions should come from the bottom-level people directly, not the mid-level managers.

I have been working at Siemens full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Internal mobility to other areas.
Big brand to have in the CV.
Structured processes (loads of them, if you love processes)

    Cons

Salary strategy is to keep at the industry average - no more.
That becomes a problem when they will not keep top players, if that incurs in paying him/her 15% more.
Company strives in a unthinkable bureaucracy for the current days.
Saw three cases of harassment in 4 years, which came to light, and management were not punished.

I have been working at Siemens full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The only pro to list is the co-workers at the same level. Amazing people who care and share in the same misery.

    Cons

There are unwritten expectations to work nights and weekends. Many people focus on how to get promoted instead of doing their current job. Middle management and above are more concerned with delegation than behaving as true leaders. There is little to no accountability outside of those at the bottom of the totem pole. The pay (salary and/or commission) is not equivalent to the amount of hard work that is required. There is little room for promotion or career growth unless you are part of the chosen few. The culture is one from the 1950s; it is either encouraged by those in the ivory tower or they are not aware of it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you truly value the company and the employees who make it a success, get out and down in the trenches. Find out how the middle management is behaving. Listen to little people. They are the first line of success each and every day. Stop cutting salaries and compensation packages.

Current Employee - Finance in Florham Park, NJ

I have been working at Siemens full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Colleagues are great and good to work with. Software/Technology is not current but at least they're fairly current. They stress process improvements. Personal growth is present for specific individuals but not for all. PTO is ok.

    Cons

Training is usually not available if it's system related, and will rely on manuals. Benefits are average. Personal growth for specific individuals. Lacking in communication and large political hurdles will be encountered. . i.e. buddy system used for hiring and they're not always the best employees. Company wide has guidelines and processes, but employees tend to ignore and not enforced by upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication is needed and less political views. Need to work as a well functioning group and not in silos. New Hires need to be local in the USA, instead of importing them in from home office in Switzerland and then they leave in few years to go back home.

Current Employee - ITO and PMO Office  in  Malvern, PA
Current Employee - ITO and PMO Office in Malvern, PA

I have been working at Siemens full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Educational opportunities are good, if you get a good manager

    Kaeser promotes and encourages diversity.

    Cons

It's a crap shoot on getting a good manager. Management and solid direction is lacking. Constantly pulling the rug out from underneath its employees. And they promise much more than they can deliver.

Mid to upper management do not follow Kaeser's example

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a grip on some of your managers. Most all of them keep a "fall guy" on hand. And its usually the ones that have been around for a long time. Far too long in some cases.

Kaeser would be ashamed if he knew what was going on in the PMO and ITO divisions. But utimately this is his responsibilty to know and correct the actions of these managers. But then again, there is that "fall guy" that they have ready to throw under the bus.
