I worked at Siemens full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Challenging assignments with experienced personnel .

    Cons

Too large of a company where a respone to whatever your request, is virtually non-existent if it happens at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more on-site qualified support/supervisor personnel. Less reliance on Siemens HQ in Germany which creates bottlenecks and handcuffs it's employees performance.

Former Employee - Project Manager in Alpharetta, GA

I worked at Siemens full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

friendly co workers and hard working staff, best group of people I've ever worked with except mgt is very hands off and taught to not care about people at all

    Cons

not family friendly, mgt hold grudges if you need to be off for sick kids or family, won't support working from home so must use vacation when sick or taking care of a sick child when you could work from home and not contaminate the whole office

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

don't micromanage and share the weath

Current Employee - Customr Support Technician II in Malvern, PA

I have been working at Siemens full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Can work from home occasionally, many of the coworkers are easy to get along with. The benefits are OK.

    Cons

Poor management communications, preference of knowledge base notes over quality technical training. Don't clearly define the mission or job scope. Not willing to train employees unless they like them. There is a very overt effort toward not training individuals managment doesnt like. Mentoring or career development is not allocated to those who seek it, unless they are part of management's cliche. No respect for balance of life issues unless forced on management by corporate policy.
Fixated on numbers and not service quality. Treat people with the same stereo negative typical brush, ie: managers and leads are knowledgeable, the workers are idiots. non competitive pay, excessive stress, not concerned about product quality complaints from customers or employees. Discourages innovative ideas unless one is part of management's cliche. They refuse to use technical or product knowledge offered from an employee with regard to customer solutions. Overly dependent on outsourced support from India that most of my clients complain about.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen the ideas and suggestions of the employees. Get serious about technical training. Get the knowledge base data peer reviewed, referenced, and vetted by industry experts. Make a serious attempt to reduce the stress that the analyst have to work with. Much of the stress is from inefficient tools and research sources. Show some empathy for employees who have problems. Stand behind your employees when they are trying to resolve customer problems and things don't go right. Stop treating people like they are numbers on a balance sheet.

    Disappointing.

I have been working at Siemens full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    It's a job in today's economy.

    Cons

Employees are treated as expendable. Communications from management are poor. People are encouraged to work hard to support the business but no one supports the people. Leaving is the best way to get a promotion or raise. Too much politics.

Current Employee - Technical Support in Buffalo Grove, IL

I have been working at Siemens full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are good, the vacation time is standard (2 weeks). There are 6 paid company holidays. The company is well recognized but with the amount of products Siemens makes it is hard to explain the divisions you work for.

    Cons

The work environment is stuffy and outdated. Old office furniture, old computers, and a old mentality. The management typically promotes the people they like most, not the better candidates. They have slimmed down on management, however the managers that are left often forget about their people. It is difficult to be recognized for the work you do, and even harder to be promoted. If you are looking for a steady paycheck and a solid workflow, work here. If you are trying to advance and work your way up the company, look elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the existing employees. Listen to the ideas. Bring in some younger people and allow them a chance in managerial roles. Talk to the managers and make sure they do their job and do it well. Most importantly create aptitude tests for incoming employees, far to many people pretend to know things.

    Pros

    Internal mobility to other areas.
Big brand to have in the CV.
Structured processes (loads of them, if you love processes)

    Cons

Salary strategy is to keep at the industry average - no more.
That becomes a problem when they will not keep top players, if that incurs in paying him/her 15% more.
Company strives in a unthinkable bureaucracy for the current days.
Saw three cases of harassment in 4 years, which came to light, and management were not punished.
