    Siemens Houston Support Center

    Quality Engineer (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsLots of opportunity, because of the lack of college trained engineers, there are lots of holes in Engineering and Operations because of the lack of discipline.

ConsManagement does not hire black professional male engineers, even though the company is located in the middle of the oldest historic black community in Houston. (check history)

Advice to Senior ManagementShould hire engineers with college degrees instead of promoting home made engineers from the shop floor

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

ProsWork life balance, bonus is ok.

ConsManagement making decision slow especially pertaining to project but dead line no change.
Hard to get promotion, politic, pay increase very slow.

Advice to Senior Managementmake decision faster and be open to suggestion.

Large company that does not promote teamwork between departments locally

    Sales Engineer (Former Employee)

ProsCompany brand global reputation, benefits, steady pay.I worked in sales in the fire and security group in the southeast USA Georgia Carolinas area. Building automation group has a strong presence in the triangle NC area with many established customers. I only worked for one division of Siemens so this review is not a reflection of the entire company.

ConsCompany is not competitive in the local marketplace, micromanagement, nepotism in the workplace, no focus on fire and security business by upper management

Advice to Senior Managementfocus on diversifying your business locally and stop working in such a silo. Siemens could accomplish much more if departments worked togethor better.

ProsGreat opportunities to fix any one of the many broken processes.

ConsDon't expect positive change overnight, there is a lot of problems, especially in the healthcare sector. Many changes have come and gone with little overall improvements taking hold.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove the work environment, instead of cutting 10% of the workforce annually to bring in fresh worker bees that you will eventually wear out and toss aside.

Size & Quality of management prevents them from being the technical company they were.

    Engineer (Former Employee)
    Charlotte, NC

ProsStability. People are rarely fired, even for poor performance. Management is never fired or demoted only shuffled into different positions. If you want a mediocre international career for 40 years and can say "yes" to everything asked of you, this is the place for you.

Cons401K (a match of 6%) and Medical (50% contribution) lags behind their competitors and even smaller companies. Paid vacation is average (start at 15 days a year). Management is horrible! I had five managers I was responsible to for one project. They were not flexible regarding work times even during family medical issues. I received requests from management not to document off-process conditions and procedures as well as "to do whatever necessary" to meet certain deliverable dates including violating Siemens' own procedures.

Advice to Senior ManagementTime for some serious G&A reductions! The company is no longer a true technical innovator; listen to their advertisements: "40% of our employees have technical jobs" & "PARTNERING" with companies to develop the innovations of tomorrow. Completely remove deadbeat managers and start treating your employees like you care. There are some really intelligent and hardworking people still at the company, but you will lose them all quickly if you don't give them the recognition and development they deserve and continue a culture of cronyism.

Terrible experience! Would not recomend worknig for this company!

    Accounting (Former Employee)
    Alpharetta, GA

ProsI have yet to find any good reasons to work at this company. No work life balance, managers make poor decisions, poor leadership, salaries are low, constant change and it is never for the good. No growth potential, unless you are located in the Alpharetta office, then you have a chance for job growth.

ConsThis company likes to change every 6 months and never gives current change a chance to develope. They are always looking to out source jobs. People are walking on egg shells all the time not sure if they will be out sourced. The managers in Corporate accounting are terrible! Thought process is old school and they cannot think outside the box. Siemens claims to be a big advocate for breast cancer, too bad the managers do not share that same belife. My manager violated FMLA and the director allowed this to happen. Even worse HR turned a blind eye to what was going on. My advice to any working in accounting, stay away from this company.

Advice to Senior ManagementRetire or move on and let someone experienced take over your position.

Lack of leadership and focus on personnel

    Account Executive (Current Employee)
    Syracuse, NY

ProsSalary and compensation are good not great

ConsNo work life balence. More concerned with quantity not quality and everyone is noticing, both employees and customers alike.

Advice to Senior ManagementConcentrate on quality

    Product Manager

    Product Manager (Current Employee)
    Orlando, FL

    ProsSize of the company.
    International exposure.
Some of the products the company offer are top quality/performance.

ConsManagement is too centralized. No clear career path.
Very week and pro company HR department.
Profitability is coming due to salary/bonus reduction.
    Very negative internal moral.
Many good people leaving the company due to low salary/compensation/relationship with senior management.

Advice to Senior ManagementChange and evolve. The new world does not allow micro management anymore.

    An Education

    Plant Manager (Former Employee)
    Woodward, OK

ProsA lot of opportunity for overtime, due to constant manpower shortage. A chance to prove yourself without proper recognition. Allowed to have responsibility without the authority to perform required duties.

ConsWill drop you without a second thought. Double standards for upper management and all those below. A lot of talk about management wanting to support but no action to follow. Many managers that cannot make a decision in a timely manner. Overall a lack of support from senior management.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop having a standard for management that is different from those below you. Remember the blue collars are the foundation of your success. Senior management is so focused on the next step in the career, they lose focus on the people that make them successful.

    Once was a great company

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGood industry and it will continue to grow.

ConsThey lost focus on employees and customers as the key to success.. Epic and Cerner do not have a better product but customer are happy with the performance of the product they get at a good cost.
