I have been working at Siemens full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Colleagues are great and good to work with. Software/Technology is not current but at least they're fairly current. They stress process improvements. Personal growth is present for specific individuals but not for all. PTO is ok.

    Cons

Training is usually not available if it's system related, and will rely on manuals. Benefits are average. Personal growth for specific individuals. Lacking in communication and large political hurdles will be encountered. . i.e. buddy system used for hiring and they're not always the best employees. Company wide has guidelines and processes, but employees tend to ignore and not enforced by upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication is needed and less political views. Need to work as a well functioning group and not in silos. New Hires need to be local in the USA, instead of importing them in from home office in Switzerland and then they leave in few years to go back home.

    I worked at Siemens

    Pros

Really good culture. Potential to stay a long time (or at least there used to be) and great extra curricular activities. Great people who have been with the company a long time make you feel welcomed.

    Cons

Management is too friendly with some of their subordinates. Don't really provide much feedback and will dump you off in a cubical if certain people don't like you.

    Pros

Lot of problems waiting to be solved.

    Cons

Multiple layers of management. To much micro management from German H.Q.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce multiple layers of management, Listen to customers, Invest in people and innovation, stop sending managers and accountants from Germany to US, there are enough talented persons in US.

work/life balance, flexibility. Most management teams are easy to communicate with. Good team environment promoting collaboration. Structured and procedural.

I worked at Siemens full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for international exposure, learning and working with diverse and talented colleagues, plus the pay is competitive.

    Cons

Lots of senior managers are fearful of losing their best people to international assignments, blocking and sometimes ruining their chances to fulfill their potential. Work-life balance diminishes the smaller your business volume is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The top management need to take a step back and think about how the decisions they are making affect the countries where they operate. Also, look at the how you are building your managers to become the leaders you want them to be.
