I worked at Siemens full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for international exposure, learning and working with diverse and talented colleagues, plus the pay is competitive.

    Cons

Lots of senior managers are fearful of losing their best people to international assignments, blocking and sometimes ruining their chances to fulfill their potential. Work-life balance diminishes the smaller your business volume is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The top management need to take a step back and think about how the decisions they are making affect the countries where they operate. Also, look at the how you are building your managers to become the leaders you want them to be.

I have been working at Siemens full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good reputation with global prestige. Great brand name. The name alone is a door-opener. Global resources are a plus.

    Cons

Pressure for annual earnings per share can lead to short term thinking trumping long term customer relationships. Highly hierarchical and bureaucratic.

    I worked at Siemens full-time

    Pros

They are quick to train you and offer many different areas of specialty. They seek to help you with your professional development and are flexible with your work/life balance.

Benefits are excellent and compensation is a bit lacking.

    Cons

A corporate culture change at the top has lead to them not being as concerned with maintaining personal relationships with customers and instead to focus on accounting goals to t detriment of customer service.

I worked at Siemens full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary is good, Co-workers are awesome. Level of expertise, experience and knowledge is outstanding. Lots of PTO if you don't get sick. Training is available but must be approved by budget and is frequently denied.

    Cons

Siemens engineering - absolutely dominated by white males. Diversity does not exist. Pretty much a good old boy's club that dictates performance rating, perks, compensation. Management is too worried about corporate Siemens and has no clue what is going on. Vacation and sick time is now all PTO. If you have an operation (or maternity leave), you are forced to use all PTO so you do not have 1 day of vacation for the rest of the year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leave your sacred hallway. Stop hiding behind meetings and busy schedule. Walk around. Talk to your people. Introduce yourself and try learning names. Make an effort to understand the barriers that prevent people from excelling.
