    Not focused

Senior CHEMIST (Current Employee) Miamisburg, OH

ProsGood place to get some experience

ConsThey are more worried about 5s, process improvement, and ISO than getting the work completed and getting orders shipped on time.

Advice to Senior ManagementHow about putting people in management that actually know what management is!

Working at this place is a waste of your time.

    Selector (Former Employee) Milwaukee, WI

ProsThe ability to cross-train and learn new skills.

ConsIntimidated by employees who speak up about any concerns. No advancement opportunities to employees who work hard only to employees who they like. No union!

Advice to Senior ManagementChange your ways!

    Money equals money

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Saint Louis, MO

ProsThese folks are amazing and long suffering...they work like dogs to achieve impossible goals many of them, so mgmt. level can bonus.

ConsThe culture used to be embodied in the phrase employees equal stockholders, equal customers. This at least verbalized a balance of sorts. There is no growth, work/ life or implication of balance currently. It's all about the money, no matter the body count.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry caring for your employees instead of squeezing each lemon dry so you can go get a younger, cheaper one. Bring back balance. Think about work life balance and true flex schedules instead of fighting this. and bring back all the jobs sent overseas. Employ more in the US again.

Unsafe & hostile, no growth opportunity, low salary, bias management

    Senior Scientist (Former Employee)

Prosgood work-life balance, 45-50 hours/week OK, no work on evenings/week-end

Consunsafe environment (especially working with chemicals)
    hostile environment
    poor management
    boring job (not intellectually challenging)
Spending lots of hours cleaning glassware or other jobs, those could be done by a tech or undergrad
    Low salary

Advice to Senior ManagementI have never seen such a bias and unprofessional environment, so my advice would be to replace the current people.

Where good ideas are treated infections to be fought

IT Project Lead (Current Employee) Saint Louis, MO

ProsWas a good place before the current strategy of moving jobs offshore

ConsTwo cliques in this company. 1. Longer term employees who are pleasant but don't get much done. They fight new ideas and new people like they are a bad infection that will threaten their clueless view of the market. 2. Newer clique that thinks the best way to success is no innovation and big cost savings.

Consequently this company sits on its hands and hoping that it's past deeds will keep it alive. No real future view of the market and no ability to hire new innovative people who know new areas.

Advice to Senior ManagementHonestly assess you progress and clean house in upper management

    The hits keep on coming...

    Field Sales (Current Employee)

    ProsGood people in general
Seem to promote from within when possible
    Steady business and financially strong.

ConsCompensation and benefits have been eroding over past few years for sales professionals especially. Company cars converted to small allowance, merit raises (when paid) went into commission instead of salary; some years not paid at all. Unrealistic sales targets. Commission not aligned with type of business we service (one size does not fit all here). Pension Plan stopped and converted to additional match in 401k with ambiguous formula for meeting certain goals. Those goals are not shared though. A general feeling of not valuing current employees with all the above happening in recent years, some people given jobs when others go through lengthy interview process, appearance of moving more jobs overseas. Sales compensations plans appear to be written to protect company instead of reward strong performers. Low investment in R&D and rank and file employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementSigma is understaffed in most sales and marketing areas. The recent reorganization created many more needed employees and the company will suffer if they are not filled. Lowering compensation should be a last ditch effort to cut costs not something done a little each year.

    Going downhill fast

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Saint Louis, MO

ProsThere are many wonderful dedicated employees.
If you get under the right mgmt, you are treated humanely and have some flexibility.
$72.00 bonus after taxes yearly (wow).

    ConsLayoffs happen very few years.
Little to no growth or advancement potential unless you move depts.
A lot of turnover and offshoring lately.
Mediocre pay for unrealistic performance expectations.
    Benefits pkg. recently downsized again.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed a major influx of leadership to maximize and retain your human capital.

If you are average/terrible at what you do, but can talk the talk, this is the place for you.

Marketing & EBusiness (Current Employee) Saint Louis, MO

ProsIf you know the right people, you might just get what you want.

ConsYou are on your own when it comes to career development, salary increments and other opportunities.
Middle management (Directors/VPs) are completely disconnected from realities and focus on strategy with no regard to tactics. The amount of money invested, compared to what was actually delivered by E-Business and Marketing, was laughable and in any other company, heads would have rolled.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour success is dependent on those who work for you. Creating ivory towers is a failed policy and is the main reason talent is leaving the company, and not recommending it to others. During my time there, I saw nary a content soul. Is that the work environment that is going to keep your stock price high for long? I think not.

The ineffectual managers encourage a divisive and hostile atmosphere.

    Chemist (Current Employee) Miamisburg, OH

ProsThe work has the potential to be interesting.

ConsThese comments are directed at the Miamisburg facility. The managers are corrupt, and they base their business decisions on personal feelings. Because of this, management and supervisory positions are filled with individuals who are uninformed and narrow-minded. But here is something that is especially disgraceful. Following the 2012 presidential election, the managers allowed the flags to be flown at half mast, obviously to protest the reelection of someone they really cannot stomach. Yes, these managers are right-wing ideologues.

Advice to Senior ManagementChange the management team--almost entirely.
