I have been working at Sigma-Aldrich full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Reasonable work hours and trusting supervisors make the work environment a treat every day.

    Cons

The HR department is a train wreck. From hiring, to part-time, and on boarding, there is very little transparency or process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix your HR department, people should get a better feeling for this great company than what they are being provided on day one.

I have been working at Sigma-Aldrich full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of opportunities to get experience in any facet of the business you would like exposure to. There are lots of bright, engaging people who work here.

    Cons

With the size of the company comes the lack of communication across any global company of similar size. Many projects are slow moving because of the risk aversion of the company. It's unfortunate, but it is understandable so as long as your expectations aren't of a fast-moving entrepreneurial workplace, then it will be less frustrating.

    I worked at Sigma-Aldrich full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good company with many good benefits. Lots of people that have spent their entire career at the company. Most employees can work their hours and then not worry about work while they're at home.

    Cons

Promotions are hard to get, sometimes people move out of departments just to get promoted. This promotion process can lead to dissatisfaction. Outside training is almost non-existent.

    I worked at Sigma-Aldrich full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The benefits are amazing, tuition reimbursement, 401k, RSVP are all great. Working there with no experience is not a problem. Being a small site everyone knows everyone.

    Cons

The site I worked at we used a temp agency and I was a temp for a year.
There is not a lot of growth or opportunity available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't keep temps for a year with no benefits.
