I have been working at Silicon Graphics International full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company has been through a lot but seems to be through the worst of it. The people are, by and large, incredibly smart, curious and helpful. Senior management is relatively new and has made a number of good changes over the past few years.

    Cons

Although necessary, the constant sense of cutting has been demoralizing. A lot of good people have left.

    Pros

Some very great knowledgeable people and great teamwork to meet deadlines and difficult situations.

    Cons

SGI has gotten very heavy in the upper management and keep bringing in more execs than focusing on the employees and business direction. With the sale of SGI Manufacturing to Jabil Circuit there doesn't appear to be a solid future left for the remaining SGI people.

I have been working at Silicon Graphics International full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

High end products are industry leading and innovative
Direct report manager one of the best I've had in my career.
Plenty of work with many customers
Different product mix to work on everyday.

    Cons

Need more field engineers to keep up with install base and new install base
Need to update processes and support documentation library.
Need to new install process for more timely information on shipping and installing and technical end user information.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs to remember that Field Engineers see the customer more than Sales and provide the majority of the customer experience. thus customers have a reason to keep buying and trying our gear.
Keep giving recognition, not just to big sales side of the house. It helps to be seen even trying.
