The long hard struggle to succeed

Implementation Consultant (Current Employee)

I have been working at SilkRoad Technology full-time for more than a year

ProsNice pay and benefits (Blue Cross Blue Shield not UHC). Lots of freedom to be creative. Never have to do the same thing twice. You can pick and choose what you work on.

ConsImplementation Senior Management is disappointed in our team speaking the truth on this site. Line management act as traffic directors instead of information providers. Every time you ask a question or need help you are just sent to ask someone else. Culture is becoming very political.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop the finger pointing. Allow the teams to be accountable for their success. Put some people who know the products in line management.

A good place to get experience for somewhere else

Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at SilkRoad Technology full-time for more than 5 years

ProsFlexibility and great people. The CEO has a good business plan and vision for the future.

ConsLack of employee development, you can get lost in the crowd if you don't jump and shout for acknowledgement. By all appearances I wouldn't imagine SilkRoad to be around in the next year. In this industry, if you're out of options to raise more capital for your IPO, then you're making yourselves look better to prospective buyers.

Advice to Senior ManagementBeing honest with the future of the company may impact your bottom line but it will increase employee's perception about management and will give people ample information to make timely decisions about their own future. Performing out of the blue layoffs is demoralizing and promotes fear in those that remain. You're all adults, act like it and treat your employees the same.

Pros- Upper management is very knowledgeable and experienced
- The ability to work from home
- The ability to works with new clients regularly
- The ability to speak to upper management whenever

Cons- No training at all
- Your thrown right into the fire on week one
- Sales steers the ship at SRT. So unless your in that department you might have issues
- Everyone is triple booked but they do not expect or make you work long hours.

Great people, good work-life balance, but pay raises don't come often.

Software Developer (Current Employee)
Edmonton, AB (Canada)

I have been working at SilkRoad Technology full-time for more than 5 years

ProsFlexible vacation time, able to work from home as needed. Low turn-over.

ConsRecent layoffs have affected morale around the company. No pay raises for anyone in the office in 2012 or 2013. As a developer I don't see any opportunity for career advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe new CEO has put in place changes throughout the company and I'm interested in seeing how it all turns out.

I have been working at SilkRoad Technology full-time

Prosmultiple product suite

Consneed more defined processes
need to cultivate a winning culture and show more love to employees

Advice to Senior Managementadd more headcount to existing departments on customer service and development side and you will be the category leader and have the most marketshare in 3 years.

is going to tip forward or backwards.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at SilkRoad Technology full-time for more than a year

ProsThe space is ready for a star to emerge. Competitors are going through the pain of being digested into much larger organizations, this could allow SRT to take advantage as the nimble vendor of choice. RedCarpet is the best in the industry and GreenLight is ready to also gain this type of respect.

ConsLots of managers who fit the profile of being a individual contributor. The systems are all separate databases so integration is really talking points. These solution with a few exceptions work together no different than if interfacing with ADP or whomever. Still offer very few languages and nothing other than English support. Benefits are not the best and no 401k match. Also talk IPO every few years but have never moved towards it while others in the space have.

Advice to Senior ManagementTime to put up or shut up. Go IPO or don't. Go Global or don't. Make a true integrated suite or don't.

Great Learning Experience

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at SilkRoad Technology full-time for more than 3 years

ProsSeems to be growing globally with new positions and opportunities opening up regularly. HR department was fantastic, supportive, understanding and helpful when I was there. Opportunities to learn world class systems while developing processes that would otherwise be set at older organizations. Flexible work schedules a plus.

ConsRegular compensation increases didn't come regularly and you had to fight for raises. Benefits were ok...profit share or 401k matching would have been nice.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide formal management training to help improve manager accountability, prioritization, appreciation, etc.
