Tenant Coordination - Do not expect this to be a positive career move, you will get no respect from upper management.

    Pros

Good salary at time of hire.

    Cons

Din't let the good salary entice you to take a position in Tenant Coordination. They lure you in with a good salary and give you time to increase your standard of living. Once they think you can't afford to quit (they do pay on the upper end of the scale and it makes leaving difficult), they will begin to tell you how terrible your work is, degrade you and try to reduce your self esteem (another tactic to keep you from leaving). You will ultimately feel trapped and hopeless. At that point, upper management can then get their jollies kicking you around. Think I'm joking???
Salary growth stalls almost immediately but you won't find that out until your first performance review. No matter how much you excel and contribute to the success of the department. T.C. Executives have favorite employees who benefit economically from the entire team's effort. If you are not one of those favorites, despite how much you excel and contribute, you will get little to no bonus or salary increase, not even basic cost of living while others who are favorites will get showered with rewards and accolades.
Beware: Tenant Coordination Executives practice corporate bullying and encourage their management staff to do the same... and they do. Tenant Coordinators do not coordinate tenants, they are upper management's crash test dummies. Upper management will do their best to make you crash and then call you a dummy.
Remember, HR is a department that exists to protect the company, not the employees. HR will make that very apparent, if you ever go to them with an issue.

    Pros

SPG owns and operates many of the nations top retail destinations. They are truly an innovative industry leader. David Simon has an excellent understanding of Wall Street. The company is financially solid.

    Cons

You are expected to work long hours and put the job ahead of family or personal pursuits. There is no work life balance. Upper management leads by intimidation tactics. Your job is always in jeopardy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a moment to thank the people that make it all possible. They are all on your team, but you have lost immeasurable talent because people will only put up with it for so long before they leave.

I worked at Simon Property Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary and benefits are nice as are the building and gym. There are a lot of good people that work for the company that show genuine appreciation when you do a good job.

    Cons

A female supervisor that preferred female employees. As a male, I was at a disadvantage through no fault of my own. No matter how hard I worked, she never gave me positive encouragement unless I pried it out of her. When I put in my notice and complained, I was shown the door the next day- no exit interview, no chance to say goodbye to coworkers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your staff- don't protect managers and VPs just because they've been there awhile. Turnover only hurts the company. I didn't want to leave but felt I had to.

    Pros

Corporate reviews your progress in monthly meetings. Managing a team gives you some control of the outcome. Great networking opportunity as you do a lot of cold calling.

    Cons

Archaic computer systems and number driven results. My day was spent cold calling. Constant changing of policies. High turn over. Your experience at Simon seems to depend on the support of upper management. Our management office was full of bickering and tears. No chance at promotion as nepotism ran rampant. Our management team would slip out during the day to go shopping then wondered why our numbers dropped! Was sold on job as Monday-Friday 9am-5pm yet worked nearly every day until 8p and every weekend due to budget issues. HR was unsupportive when reported.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your act together! House needs to be cleaned with fresh talent brought in and update your computers already! It isn't 2000. Support field offices as teams instead of groups of individuals.

    Pros

Opportunities to grow and learn hospitality, marketing, and real estate management.

    Cons

Very little training. No real support from corporate office. Depending on role you can be easily replaced or moved to another property.

Misleading job posting and interview for Marketing Administrative Assistant position. Incredibly low salary.

Former Employee - Marketing Administrative Assistant
Former Employee - Marketing Administrative Assistant

I worked at Simon Property Group full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Office manager is fantastic, incredibly knowledgeable and a huge asset to the operations of this office.

    Cons

This position was NOT a marketing position. It is primarily a financial/controller position for the gift cards and entering tenant sales data. The internal job description in the training manual for the position is NOTHING like what was in the job posting or what was discussed in the interview. Upon resigning, I informed my supervisor that if I had seen the correct job description in the posting, I never would have applied for the position. Recommended they rewrite the posting in an accurate way, better explain the requirements of the job during interviews, look for a finance minded individual and not a creative type and consider a different title for the position as well.

The salary for the position is incredibly low for the work load and responsibilities of the job.

    Pros

Schedule flexiablity, lots of responsibility, ability to interact with the public

    Cons

stressfull, stressfull, stressfull. You work weekends, and every holiday. Managment does not micromanage, but will be on you like white on rice if you don't meet arbitrary goals, and no recognition for all the work you do.

Overall, good for experience, but don't get too attached.
