  1. Marketing Intern

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at Simon Property Group

    Pros

Was given the opportunity to take charge of different projects and get involved in the planning and distribution process of signage, social media, and organizing events. Office employees become like family, you get to make many contacts and connections with organizations and retail tenants, you are included in meetings, conference calls, in-mall and external activities. You learn a lot about different marketing strategies.

    Cons

Top management is way too over their heads and can be too authoritative and demanding, they lack communication with employees, expect you to be as immersed and addicted with work like them telling you this is "the real world", many do not know how to prioritize and give the interns busy work and meaningless tasks.

    Advice to Management

Lower your expectations with interns and learn how to be better leaders without having the need to belittle others

    Pros

Getting to talk with guests everyday and make a difference in the mall.

    Cons

Pay sucks and very corporate world.

    Advice to Management

Increase pay and pay attention to what is going on in the field level. Experience should matter if you have worked with a company to hire within.

I worked at Simon Property Group full-time

    Pros

Ability to learn and develop marketing skills, network with multiple tenants. Enjoyed and effectively coordinated mall events.

    Cons

Didn't have the guidance of a Marketing Director as that position was terminated. Understood the reality of fiscal necessities.

    Pros

    Loved the job itself.

    Cons

Management doesn't want to help with achieving goals they just want them done. They overload you and set you up for failure.

    Advice to Management

Work together and not just tear down peoples actions afterwards.

    Pros

I loved the benefits, and my co workers. I worked at the mall level, so I interacted with the tenants which ialso loved. There was a lot of money freedom there, so you could order a ton of office supplies and what you needed, and do whatever you wanted as long as your work was done

    Cons

There were no challenges for my position. It's corporate so if that tells you anything.they don't really hire within, which is why I started working there in the first place I wanted to move up, and there is a ton of environmental waste, they just don't care

    Advice to Management

Let the malls run themselves. They know what's best for the area, the people in corporate don't. Dont focus do much on branding simon as a whole, no one cares, brand each mall uniquely. And waaaayyy better training. There is little to none.

    Pros

Awesome work amenities, gym, showers. starting salary if not in entry level position.

    Cons

bonuses??? they mentioned it but didn't follow through.. didn't follow through with other promises that were part of offer.. Department head did not know what was going on in the department and would complain and have no clue what was actually being done.

    Advice to Management

Promote managers to department heads ie. the head of my department should not of been a former developer that they wanted to keep in the company after they had to let go or force into retirement a lot of the developers. Our department head was not efficient or effective.

    Pros

Good Direct Boss, benefits and pay

    Cons

Upper management has no clue what is going on and how to improve the life of employees. The heads of some departments were former developers and have NO clue how to run the department their are the new department head of. They only moved them as the department heads when they had to let go most of their developers and placed the developers with the most promise as the department heads to retain them until they would be promoted back to a developer but instead you have people running departments that have no interest or experience in running that departments.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who have worked in departments for a long time or at least want to be in that department not people who are waiting for a job to open up as a developer.
