    Flight Attendant

    Flight Attendant (Current Employee)
    Salt Lake City, UT

ProsTravel benefits, flexibility, self guided daily routine.

    ConsLong hours, seniority based system

Advice to Senior ManagementBeing able to work less hours would save company money through, less sick calls, overall moral of employees, and less senior pay rates met. Part time should be available to more inflight staff.

Skywest is a great company with awesome travel benefits!

    Flight Attendant (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsAmazing travel benefits on multiple carriers. Great way to get your foot in the door and get a full time (non reserve) schedule quickly. Lots of movement for transfer opportunities to other bases. Work with different people every week. No direct boss!

ConsLow pay, lots of downtime, away from home, working on small aircraft can be challenging, working alone. Reserve can be a challenge due to high rent cost and no flexibility.

Advice to Senior ManagementUp the reserve staffing for better quality of life for employees. Allow more drops in skedplus.

Presently employed with Skywest as a flight attendant

    Flight Attendant (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsYou are not just a number fewer employees in a base, you get to know most of them. You get a line faster than mainline. Variety and shorter flights. The best Regional Airlines in the market. You get flight benefits on several other airlines.

ConsThey run lean, so you work quite a bit. Which can make it hard to get time off. More conservative so you must follow that train of thought to dress and behavior.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more flexible, work with your employees to make it a win win especially when it comes to time off.

    Corporate Trainer

Corporate Trainer & Customer Service Agent (Former Employee)
    Salt Lake City, UT

ProsThe culture at SkyWest is top notch, you won't find better people than at Skywest. Very down to earth & care about the individual, from customer service/ramp employees to corporate level(both of which I worked) I felt honored as an employee.

ConsThe cons about the airline industry have nothing to do with SkyWest- but just the nature of the business... It's all about seniority when it comes to scheduling- so plan in working nights, weekends & holidays for a few years if you are in the customer service/ramp end. Corporate positions obviously have better schedules. It's the beast of the airline industry but worth all the benefits of the job.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up morale of your employees with encouragement, recognition & support the individual. It's easy to feel like just another employee - but I have had a few SkyWest managers that cared about me a little more & that made all the difference !

    Manager

    Manager (Current Employee)
    Saint George, UT

Prosculture focused on employees, consistently successful financial results compared to industry norms, flexible work environment

Consmargins are slim and pay is low, health benefits are very expensive for such a large company

Advice to Senior Managementat some point, wage/salary can no longer be overcome by other benefits/perks/consideration

    Great place to be.

    Aircraft Mechanic (Current Employee)
    Colorado Springs, CO

ProsEvery member of the team is very helpful. There is a sense of security here. Management is both forgiving and tolerant. They understand human factors and how to keep their employees content without a union. Pay is good considering the actual work you do. Schedule is good too.

ConsWorking over nights can be tough on the social life. Learning the aircraft can be a slow process because many of the aircraft that come in just need routine maintenance.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the relationship that you have with the employees.

GREAT benefits, but not without a downside

    Cross-Utilized Agent (Former Employee)
    Grand Junction, CO

ProsAwesome coworkers, pay raises every year (twice in the first year after 6 and 12 months), effective training, and the benefits!

ConsManagement is understanding, but not effective; too little pay for the work, and the benefits don't completely justify the low pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to be more proactive to increase efficiency. Management is too held up in offices to be aware of what goes on without radio communications.

    Dedicated and Loyal employee group

    Station Agent (Former Employee)

ProsFlight Benefits on Skywest and many other air carriers. Average health benefits. 401k and profit sharing programs. Diverse employee group that form lasting friendships.

ConsCan be high stress when flights are full or overbooked. Companys policy of doing more with less many times translates into poor customer service. Payscale is at the low end of the spectrum in relation to the work load.
