    Pros

    Excellent culture for employees who enjoy being challenged and rewarded, this company helps change lives!!! Company recognizes sales success with a living wage, and outstanding new products which keep it interesting.

    Cons

    Retail and extended holiday hours are a drag. Is it useful to open at 7 or 8 on Labor Day and stay until 10 at night? So much for the holiday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep innovating, it is working!! Let go of the over-paid pompous jerks who contribute very little.

    Very laid back environment. Great work culture. Good staff.

    Cons

    Parking. Lack of training to the stores. Lack of infrastructure in place during peak season.

    Pros

    Pay structure allows for the ability to make a good amount of money. The company recognizes success with their "President's Circle" each year and sends them on an all expense paid vacation!

    Cons

    The manager I had was less than professional and I have met others that were the same. They raise your goals over 30% when you hit them which makes it much harder to hit your commission tiers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Spend more time with your managers developing the culture that Sleep Number is all about.

    Pros

    Great work environment. The stores are nice and decent hours.

    Cons

    Not being able to have outside internet options in store is a drawback. We are adults and should have access to competitor websites for comparison and knowledge.

    Keep the sales plans low enough where the sales greyhounds don't stop chasing the rabbit.

    I have been working at Sleep Number by Select Comfort full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    -Employee discounts on beds.
    -What you sell actually helps people and improves lives.
    -Ability to make decent money; even great money.
    -Small staff so it becomes like a second family.
    -Little to no stress work environment when compared to other jobs that pay the same, more, or less.
    -No take home work.
    -Easy to read commissions. No surprises on payday.

    Cons

    -In the past year store hours on Sundays went from 12-6 to 11-7, taking away more time from family/personal time. I'm sure this works in some markets but in the Bible belt we don't see traffic in our stores until after 1pm and it slows down by 5pm.
    -No matter how much paid time off you have earned it feels like a punishment to take more than an extra day or two off a week because of how aggressive the sales goals are.
    -I would like to see the commission structure not be capped at 8% when you reach 140% to your sales goal. I would also like to see it be the highest tier commission on everything you sold and not an average.
    -I would like to see Sleep Expert's be able to be rewarded with a quarterly bonus. Not as high as the Store Managers but at least something.
    -I would like to see them do a little bit better job at planning sign changes so they don't land on Christmas Eve, Halloween, etc. That is our family time and it would be nice to not be stuck at work.
    -I don't like the UP system and the fact that we get secret shops that potentially cause us to lose out on real customers that are buying.

    Keep moving us forward and growing.

    Pros

    Great products that really help a lot of people. Consantly bring out new innovate products that no other competitor has. My fellow managers in my district are great teammates. DM worked his way up from sleep professional so he has a good understanding of the day today issues a store managers faces. Very supportive.

    Cons

    Communication between corporate and retail could be better. Home delivery is a mess right now.

    Clean up the problems with home delivery.

    Pros

    It is an outstanding company that truly believes in their employees, the product, promoting from with in, and giving people every opportunity to succeed.

    Cons

    In my time I had 4 district managers. Three were fired while I was there. The fourth fired me. He was inconsistent, although there over 10 years, ignored policy, and used personal reasons to let me go - based on a month my store hit plan.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    If you have a district manager you is terminating a large percent of his staff, look at the DM before allowing him to fire more. Also, maybe follow up with some of those that he has fired and find out if he did anything to help them out.

    Pros

    The pay stucture, the people you get to help sleep better. Being able to help people feel better and sleep better. I loved working for this company, but there on cons mostly in the south texas store. See below. They make a great product, and at the end of the day
    You feel proud you have helped someone. Some people view bed as over priced, but they is a perfect bed for everyone income.

    Cons

    Not being able to offer better deals for military, wounded warriors, and wheelchair customer. These latter two customers realy benefits from the adjustable feature of lifting and lowere both head and feet.
    Second con, in the South Texas market, you heard of a few managers that are stocking her store with her young friends, and slowing weeding out the older more experienced sales professional. I heard she didn't feel comfortable in working with people as she said was her dad's age. When there was an opening at her store, she had a bunched of season sales people over the age of 35 interviewed. In the end, she decided to go with a young kid, who had no sales experienced, but hung out with the her and her other friend who was also a employee she brought on in the past 8 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    When interviewing new employees; the interviewing manager should have someone looking over their shoulders, so they don't just hire their friends. They should be interviewed by a partial second person, who doesn't have a vested interest in them being hired. ALSo the DM shouldn't have the belief that if the sales in the store are good, there are no problems. I have heard other employees and manager voiced their opinions to the current DM, and was told but the sales are so great, they don't have any real problems.

    Listen. Try to help employees meet standards instead of weeding out good employees with unreasonable expectations. Maybe a weekend off now and then?

    more local radio promotions. Get out in the communities in Salt Lake City and Irmo. Many people do not even know they are there.
