  1. For the most part my experience was decent, but would not contract for them again without some changes.

    Pros

S-L is a very aggressive company and constantly has promotions running in their accounts. Some freedom on how to run your route.

    Cons

To many crossdocks, which are displays shipped directly to a company's warehouse and then shipped to the store. Yes, you get a commission on them, but not as much as you would get if you delivered the display yourself. Also, a lot of my stores would make me fill the shelf from the crossdock, thereby shrinking my commission due to lost sales.
Sales management not very willing to stand up for independent contractors or take into consideration that we have to maintain a healthy bottom line and pay bills just like S-L.

    Advice to Management

Turn sales managers into route support and take more interest in what will make contractors, not only more successful, but what will help the routes run more fluid. Mods need to be more consistent, in other words, fight to get chains like Walmart to carry the same items, especially in salty items. Also, while new products are nice, there is only so much room in a delivery truck.

    Pros

Good opportunity for an experienced distributor to make money.

    Cons

Not much support from corporate office, especially from the accounting dept. New distributors are not trained properly. Orders rarely come correct. District sales manager is nearly impossible to get ahold of. Rude employees.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of dead weight sales reps. They are the problem not ibos.

    Pros

    Excellent Safety program and benefits!

    Cons

Everyone talking but no one listening! Receiving department is awful, and very unprofessional! Communication, team building skills and training are area's of improvement.

    Advice to Management

Teach your leaders how to communicate effectively, help build morale, implement incentives, provide more training to improve your employee skills to help them promote within or want to promote within the company. Implement compensation increases other than end of the year when there is an increase in insurance.

    Pros

take safety seriously and mean it
good benefits and bonus structure for management
for salary personal flexible and family friendly

    Cons

corporate management says one thing, then doesn't follow through
definitely felt as a woman that I made less and was treated differently on the floor
for the floor personnel not family friendly at all, they are treated as numbers
HR department is far from helpful and often gets things like payroll incorrect

    Advice to Management

when you say you'll do something do it, or tell the person up front they are on their own to figure it out

    Pros

Decent career opportunity, with good benefits and vacation time.

    Cons

Merger with Lance brought additional quality products, but ruined company morale.

    Advice to Management

Too many managers... not enough production employees to get the job done effectively. Too much emphasis placed on "Shareholders"; instead of those doing the job to make the company successful.

    Pros

when I joined it was a small company, privately held. They hired highly experienced people to act in as entrepreneurs
    to grow the company.

    Cons

Going puplic, they seem to have forgotten their past success, everything is about wall street now.

  9. I worked at Snyder's-Lance

    Pros

Local managers always were willing to help. Always done by a reasonable hour. The hours were great.

    Cons

We are independent contractor but they want everything done the corporate way. Want you to be frito lay but we pay for everything. Management want it run corporate but we are not.

    Advice to Management

Quit treating the independentsame like they are independent because we weren't allowed to make decisions on what accounts to deal with.
