I have been working at Solo Cup full-time

ProsThe company has great opportunity for growth. Everyone know's Solo Cup. Looks good on a resume.

ConsMaking the employees move to Michigan is the biggest reason everyone is leaving now.

I enjoyed the time that I worked at Solo, even though they were going through a reorganization at the time.

Credit and Dispute Resolution (Former Employee)
Lincolnshire, IL

I worked at Solo Cup full-time for more than a year

ProsSolo Cup offered a more than competitive salary. The first three months that I was there were rather hectic, but enjoyable, as they were trying to do an internal reorganization. When that didn't work, they brought in outside help, and everything changed...

ConsDuring the "reorganization", management was poor at best. The actual Credit Manager was not allowed to do her job, and was eventually replaced by an outside person, trained in reorganizations - not good for morale, or workflow.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the "little guy" - sometimes they have much more insight than management does.

Good benefits package

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Lake Forest, IL

I have been working at Solo Cup

ProsSolo Cup has a great insurance package. The new building in Lake Forest is beautiful and much more accessible for commuters.

ConsHopefully the more generous 401k match which we previously enjoyed will be reinstated soon. This would make a big difference when compared to the benefit packages at other companies.

Advice to Senior ManagementNone.

Solo Cup is a good place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Solo Cup

ProsBenefits and general policies are the equal of other companies. A culture of respect and professionalism is strongly encouraged. There is a good program in place to reward and recognize exceptional employees.

ConsThe rumor mill is constant and can lead to anxiety. A rocky integration between Sweetheart and Solo resulted in layouts and a couple of lead years. Turnover in some departments causes extra work as new people are constantly being trained.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunication has improved drastically in the last 2 years, but more communication is never a bad thing. Keep your word, value your employees, particularly the long term employees. They're here because they're loyal to the company not because they are lazy.

Just tell us when you're going to close Owings Mills please, enough of the stress.....

Manager (Current Employee)
Owings Mills, MD

I have been working at Solo Cup

ProsPeople internally are friendly and there is no micro-management. My opportunities, so far, have been self generated, there is no "push" from management in any regards. The freedom to make mistakes and learn from them is encouraging.

ConsLack of communication on important matters down the chain. Overall a doomsday feeling here in the satellite office due to many other depts being moved to Corporate in Chicago. All of our former "perks" have been taken from us including, holidays, post office, product giveaways, cafeteria, etc. Company is hemmoraging money because it doesn't care about the customers. Too much policy enforcement combined with a bad economy is going to shut down everything else here.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo something that shows that our team has a future with the company. Don't lie and cover up the truth in matters of depts moving and buildings being closed.

Overall working at Solo Cup has been good.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Solo Cup

ProsSolo Cup offers good insurance with medical, prescription, dental, vision, and life. Also offers discounts on auto and home insurance.

ConsLack of communication is a big downside to the operation. Also some of the people in leadership positions show favoritism.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunication needs to be improved especially at shift change. Procedures for things like changeover and materials organization need to be followed by all shifts.

Work for the Company many years

Accounting (Current Employee)

I have been working at Solo Cup

ProsInteresting work enviroment. Had the latitude to do what I thought was best. Advancement was up to the individual. Best place I ever worked

ConsComputer systems were needed to be upgraded. At the time much of the software didn not communicate with each other.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen more to your employee's and less to consultants. Sell the brand not the commodity. return to the basics and treat your employees as assets not expense
