I worked at Solstice Sunglass Boutiques part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Pay is higher than minimum wage. Loved the employee discounts. They offered incentives and monthly contests. Management was always making sure that your knowledge of merchandise was up to date. Compared to my past experience in retail, working at a sunglass store was the best! Did not have to stay super late after closing

    Cons

After the store manager had to leave, it took them forever to find a replacement. Management was a bit chaotic. You will always have people who will steal your sale! Management pushed way too much on reaching sales goal when it was not unattainable due to lack of customers. Black out dates are such a pain!! Hours given were cut short to 4-5 hours per selling specialist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although pay is higher than minimum wage, selling specialists deserve a higher pay. Black out dates during summer is a little unreasonable. Would like to go back working longer shifts.

I have been working at Solstice Sunglass Boutiques part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Decent discount on sunglasses; chance to bonus; raises occur almost yearly; luxury environment; sales oriented without too much pressure; great training that's very informational; chance to move up in the company/hires from within often; accommodating to your schedule.

    Cons

While the ability to bonus is possible, it can be very hard for lower performing stores; communication with higher management is often lagging as they do not often get back to you within a decent amount of time. Changes that need to be made in the stores can often be slow moving. Disputes with higher management often leads to the quitting of many store managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow for better opportunities to bonus; a free pair of sunglasses a year would be nice too.

I have been working at Solstice Sunglass Boutiques full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Corporate doesn't micromanage. Good base pay. Biggest selection of sunglasses in the mall. You're empowered to do what is right for the customer, even if it isn't necessarily company policy.

    Cons

They always find ways to take away the bonuses. They don't give you a break down of your commission and bonus, so you just have to trust them. They are frequently wrong or paid late. Communications seem like they are written for elementary school students. What is it about Corporations that make them talk to employee's like children. TOOOOOO MAAAANNNNYYYYY FORRRMMMS!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Break down our bonuses. Stop splitting up our bonuses. If we make our month, give us the bonus!

I have been working at Solstice Sunglass Boutiques

    Pros

in response to the review from the corporate person: much of what is written is accurate and senior management is aware of the lack of opportunity from within. However the reviewer is not correct about no movement from the field to the corporate area. There have been several employees who moved from the field to the corporate NYC location and there has been 1 employee who successfully moved from a store manager position to a Safilo Product Manager posiion. It is fully recognized that opportunities from a store manager to a district manager have been limited. In 2012 substanital monies have been dedicated to the creation of area managers and co manager positions exactly designed as succession to the position of District Manager. We look forward to adding these positions starting immediately and continuing throughout 2012 and beyond

    Cons

no more downsides than any other company

I worked at Solstice Sunglass Boutiques full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Decent discount, great incentives, contests. RMs and DMs care about all employees and are always available to talk to you if you need to. Great training on product knowledge. Promote from within.

    Cons

This is only for the hawaii store, all other store managers are awesome (asked employees from ofher stores). Boss was a total douche! Throws employees under the bus. Doesn't give recognition to those who deserve it. Favortism. Very unorganized and miss run. Doesn't work hours a store manager should.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to what employees are saying about this particular manager. He is the reason why workers keep quitting. The store is a $3m store because of location not because of him.
