I worked at Sonic full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Love the guest interaction and time spent with the crew. Always something new every day.

    Cons

Abusive mulit-unit partners who have minimal respect for the operating partners. Many refer to them as nobodies. Grew tired of these guys coming in and destroying the crews morale and then expecting me to get them pumped up again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I understand your role and it's importance. Take more of a mentor approach with your crew and shift leaders. I think that you fail to see the diamonds that are being formed all around you.

I have been working at Sonic part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Most people are very friendly, and the job is pretty easy as far as just doing it goes. It could be considered a con, but the days often fluctuate between non-stop business and doing nothing for a while. It can get boring, but usually you can find something to do, and it can be a nice break. It's good experience, easy to move into manager position if you're willing to learn, promotes some overall good skills like multitasking and teamwork. Hours are flexible, if you ask to only have a certain number a week or to not work certain days you will (probably) get it.

    Cons

Pretty low standards overall. A lot of things that are supposed to be done aren't done, even the things the lead manager is supposed to be doing to run the store. We will quite often run out of certain things because someone didn't order more. Often times people are hired who are difficult to work with until they don't show up to work one day without calling in (and sometimes they still aren't fired). What I'm saying is, you need to be prepare to pick up some slack. No real opportunity for raises, you have to ask and hope for the best, even those working here for over a year. Pay for managers doesn't seem to be much better than that of the crew members. There are no trainers, new crew members are put through the e-learning course and then put into their position, and other crew members are expected to keep up with training them while doing their own jobs (may not be too bad, on slow days, but new people are often scheduled for the busiest days of the week). Overall, standards are low and work ethic and practice are distasteful. No one cares at this job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve your hiring practices, and keep a better eye on those you hire (including those you hire to run your stores), make sure everything that needs to get done is done. Offer raises, even if they're small, and encourage good work ethic. Hire or promote people to be trainers, train them to train others, and have at least one at a store so that they can work with new people and teach them all the right things to do and how to do them. Provide your stores with all the tools they need to run the place properly, and to preserve the health of your employees.
