    Pros

If you don't have job experience or a degree, this is one of your first stops in a career. If you want a promotion fast and you have a younger crew, this is the place to get it so you can move up in the world. Good skating carhops usually make more than assistant managers. Current General Manager is a Great guy and respects people who do their work.

    Cons

Ironically, it's easier for people who can't skate to be promoted, because skating carhops are more valuable than managers. If you're live somewhere with lots of older people, you can forget about a promotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

management above GM-Not considering someone because they haven't worked at the chain for 10+ years is not a valid reason to not promote them. It's better to have a decent 1st assistant/GM for a year or two rather than a corrupt old guy who couldn't get hired elsewhere because of years of continuous till theft and timecard fraud.
Once thieves have access to the Computers, they can steal as much money as they please. If you catch someone stealing, FIRE THEM or reduce their hours so much that they're forced to quit and you don't have to pay their severance check (people sometimes get fired on purpose in order to take advantage of severance).

    Pros

Definitely a good job to gain some basic work experience and customer service skills but there are better places out there.

    Cons

Super fast paced and your coworkers expect a lot out of you even when you are brand new. It gets very stressful and long shifts are exhausting. Very few perks to working here: you dont get any free food or shakes, all you get is free drinks while you are working.

I worked at Sonic part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

When you get to carhop, the money is actually somewhat decent for fast food. Generally good people. The management does a pretty decent job of recognizing hard workers. The management also generally is pretty helpful during rushes instead of just sitting in the office and letting everyone else struggle like I've seen at other restaurants.

    Cons

You will always smell bad. The way they clean is pretty gross, and everything feels unclean always. The hours aren't great. The owner isn't generally there, which is fine, but it seems to affect the opportunity for efficient changes to be made because the management can't always make certain decisions without the owner's approval.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rotate carhoppers so that tip opportunities are more evenly distributed.

    Pros

If you're in a good department with a good department head, the environment can be fun, fast-paced, and flexible. The salaries and benefits are mostly near industry standards. It's an 'open' environment, so most everyone has a cubicle, including many VPs which leads to a good amount of personal interaction and a collaborative environment.

    Cons

The salary and flexibility varies highly depending on the department and supervisor. The lack of consistency in salary, work schedules, flexibility, advancement opportunities, and career paths is frustrating. The company puts a major emphasis on certain departments and allows them to run with little accountability, while other departments are expected to clean up the mess.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work-life balance and accountability should be made a priority for all employees, not just those of particular departments and positions.

    Pros

I enjoy Sonic because the people are very fun and nice to work with. They taught me everything really well and the environment is very comfortable. I'm primarily a night carhop, so I usually manage to take home $15 - $25 a night in tips, though that can be more or less depending on the time of day and how slow it gets. After working a month at Sonic I found I had over $600 saved up in tips. This job is really good for kids still in school because the management is very understanding of your schedule, and is open to working with you to get you hours while giving you time for other things. It's also a pretty easy job to get the hang of.

    Cons

My first paycheck (one every two weeks) was only $130.88. Considering the job, it was reasonable, but as I'm planning on moving out on my own soon it's a pretty fretful thing. Tips aren't always constant, some nights you'll find yourself with only a few dollars to take home.

    Pros

Well, you had a discount on food. Everyone seemed like family. When it would get swamped with customers, someone almost always had your back to help. Decent tips if you work your butt off and take care of your customers. Loved having regular customers who would ask for me when placing their order.

    Cons

Always on the go!! You are constantly speed walking or running!! I honestly don't think sonic pays enough for their hard working employees. The food is good, and if you have a great manager and supervisors, then it makes it a little easier to get through the day. But bottom line... a lot of lifting, running, and trying to hurry to make sure the order is placed, made, everything is clean and on time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would say..be patient with your new employees who are new to working. I had a great supervisor but my manager pushed me way more than he should have when I had only been there for a week. He would get so mad when he would try to make me learn the switchboard and I would mess up on accident. also, get to know your employees.

    Pros

    Half off discount while employed.

    Cons

Even managers don't make much more than the other employees. The owner at the one I work at is cheap and greedy. Won't replace or fix speakers or screens. Makes customers mad when they can't hear you.
