    I worked at Sonic full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Sonic made me the professional I am today. I met a great deal of awesome people at conferences and training seminars. The job will give you what you put into it. As a GM, I had the ability to create the atmosphere that worked best at my stores. Management before me was extremely influential. Their positive guidance taught me everything I based my professional management career on. I especially loved the hands-on training segments for management. I cannot describe the integrity Sonic has instilled in me.

    Cons

    Franchise ownership of any store meant only paying GMs up to $11/hr. I worked in two states at 8 different stores under 2 different owners.
    There was little to no bonus.
    Overtime/Holidays/Weekend availability is a MUST as a GM.
    You can only go so high at store level. Very rarely did I see any opportunity to move up from there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Explore how to incorporate the more joy into the workplace.
    Face challenges and learn from mistakes as a team.
    Guide and empower entry-level employees.
     I would suggest having templates for STORE-LEVEL team-building exercises, better yet, have someone dedicated to TEAM BUILDING EXERCISES and MODERN MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKERS!

    Pros

    The tips while working at Sonic were great. Also, a very social atmosphere and the managers were great. The restaurant was run well and clean.

    Cons

    The hourly wage was low and not great. Also, the hours were long, tiring and commonly at night. Roller skating also became tiring at times.

    Pros

    Fun people, fun food to make, summer hours are GREAT. Didn't care about me being wild with my hair or make up. Don't care about tattoos. The repeat customers are great, it's like family.

    Cons

    Favoritism, winter hours are AWFUL (like 8 hours a week)!!! Unbearably hot in summer. The uniform shirt just makes it so much worse. Equipment is so old so it's always breaking and customers are always complaining because it's broken. Don't be a car hop they pay you so little and they don't even make it known your suppose to tip.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Don't put some one who owns a profit of the store in charge of it. It's unfair and he's unnessacarily strict and harassing everyone because he's money hungry.
    2. Don't hire 10 managers so they take all the hours.
    3.stop texting and actually help.
    4. When you get mad don't start cussing at people and throwing trays at carhops.

    Pros

    Pays the bills and has flexible schedule when in school. Fast paced and mostly short shifts.

    Cons

    Lots of drama. Management is political. Hard working conditions. Lots of ghetto people and drug use. People constantly complain about not getting hours or about other employees.

    Pros

    Pros include a lot of hours, flexible schedule if you aren't management, some people tip which gives you cash in-pocket, and sometimes it can be fun. Sometimes.

    Cons

    I worked here for four years first as a carhop, then an assistant. The job is very stressful, especially if you're an assistant. If anything happens all the blame will be put on you. Sonic also tends to be a drama-mill since it's such a small space where customers aren't allowed and so many highschool kids work there. In my experience everyone usually hates everyone and it's nothing like a "team" or friendly environment. Plus management doesn't care about the employees. Sometimes as assistants we were expected to do open to close shifts (16 hours) with no notice and no objections.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay your overworked, under appreciated assistant managers a little more. Also stop playing favorites with the cute highschool girls-yuck.

    Pros

    Very good leadership and all around knowledgeable staff. Friendly co-works and friendly customers! Can earn promotions quickly, with excellent pay!

    Cons

    Part-time hours suck for those employees. May have just been because of our franchise, though! I recommend NEVER working for Houchens (Franchiser). They will screw you so bad!

    Houchens is ruining your brand, and all of the stores the run should be looked into and evaluated thoroughly.
