    Pros

There are a lot of good people working at Sonoco. The company pays competitively. There are a lot of locations if you are interested in relocation.

    Cons

There are few opportunities for training and no development of bench-strength. New people are brought in only to replace vacancies.

    Advice to Management

Quit worrying about making the dividend payment so high and start investing in new capital for your manufacturing.

    Pros

Well first of all, the people are for the most part wonderful, they kid with you a lot, my fellow supervisors are some of the best people in the world, the train and get you cross trained as soon as possible.

    Cons

The cons are, that is a very high stress job for us supervisors and section leaders. They brought in these guys fresh out of college to basically shake up every thing we have been for the past 50 years.

    Advice to Management

Take back control of your plant.

    Pros

The company is undergoing a large ERP implementation project that spans the entire globe, which gives you a chance to learn and develop a lot of new data management techniques.

    Cons

There's a lot of bureaucracy and the pay is not competitive. The pace of decision making can also be painfully slow.

    Pros

Stable company that has been around a long time. Lots of great people to work with and around. Decent pay, safety oriented, and promotes from within. Generations of families employed with the company since the beginning over 100 years ago.

    Cons

Like the rest of corporate America, the distance between top management and employees has continually grown, benefits and incentives that used to drive production, maintain morale, and give employees a reason to want to come to work have virtually disappeared. Annual wage increases are almost completely consumed by benefit cost increases year after year.

    Advice to Management

Get in touch with reality, employees, and what really drives the company. Stop following the trend and do the right thing.
