Current Employee – been working at Southern Company full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Advanced technical knowledge with long hours, but a flexible work schedule. This is a plant position with little room for growth.
Cons – The pay for this job is 75-90K per year with little room for improvement. The job requires exceptional technical skills but does not compensate for the skills compared to other positions.

Former Employee – worked at Southern Company
Pros – Office environment is great, very nice people and great place to work. Family oriented and very insistent upon growth within the company.
Cons – Management could pay more attention to what the supervisors and managers below them are doing. Lots of politics and tenure means TOO much. A few HORRIBLE people who have been there WAY to long.
Advice to Senior Management – Trim the fat. Get rid of the folks who are just THERE.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at Southern Company full-time for more than a year
Pros – The perks as an employee are great. You get paid well, and don't have to work that hard.
Cons – The organization is slow to move, rewards tenure over performance, and is highly inefficient. Even though there are many opportunities for the company to better implement technology to eliminate middle and back office jobs, the company does not undertake those projects for fear of having to lay off employees of the company.
Advice to Senior Management – Cut the fat in the business. In your business, it is more important to look busy than to actually be doing work.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at Southern Company as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – Stable company with great co-workers. Lots of information given during training and good pay.
Cons – At first, I was given the impression that it would be a 2 year contract but it ended suddenly with no prior notice. I was called to the office, sent downstairs and told that the contract ended right then. I received a great review but they ended the contract saying that the sponsoring company discontinued financial support.

Former Employee – worked at Southern Company full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Good benefits, great work environment.
Cons – Hard to make career progress.
Advice to Senior Management – More inter-connectivity. Corporate shouldn't be just corporate, Call Center shouldn't be just call center. Career-minded employees feel limited to whatever facility they're presently on.

Former Employee – worked at Southern Company full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Good hours and flexible with empolyees
Cons – EOO says it all about this company.. Promoting minorities' over more qualified people was a common theme amongst the company. In fact they prided themselves with this accomplishment. If you are a minority this is the place for you..
