I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Managers and trainers are super people. Overall atmosphere is fun and inviting. Benefits are very strong.

    Cons

Union reps are thugs who are an embarrassment to the company and the starting hourly pay is not good for the work you put in. Can't afford to travel nor can you get time off easily to go enjoy free flying.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sit in on the speech that the union reps give themes hire classes. Those guys bash management and cuss like drunk sailors.

I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Your coworkers, benefits, allowed to be yourself, job security, growth happening. Been here for 19 years and I still enjoy my job. Hope to have many more to come.

    Cons

U work very hard when you are working. There is no slacking off but that's a good thing. Sometimes it's hard for upper management to listen to what's going on in the field but still love it here

I have been working at Southwest Airlines

    Pros

Loving it so far! Benefits, pay, environment, opportunity for growth. Compared to other airlines this is apparently the one you want to work for and start a career.

    Cons

If you're a new hire that means no senority. No weekends off. No senority means crappy late shifts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend a bit more time on on hands training rather than classroom work. That's the best way to learn.

I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

SWA employees are the highest paid in the industry, thanks to a great contract. Once you get beyond 4 years, the money is great and even better with OT. Compared to other airlines, who are now contracting workers, SWA pay is EXCELLENT after your initial years of low wages. The benefit package is good, but could be better. Bags fly free and so do WE, which is what make working for an airline better than a contractor, doing the same job. Plus there are big discounts to fly on other airlines.

    Cons

The legendary SWA culture of being a fun place to work and most admired place to be employed is slowly becoming extinct. The founding president cared about his employees while his successor, more about the bottom line. They attempt to have remnants of the former "fun" culture, but, "the glory hath departed." Come in, earn your pay and TRY to get a life outside of SWA. But the nature of working for an airline will make that impossible for the decade of your your ;employ. Seniority is so high, it'll take about that long for you to pay your dues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at where companies wound up after being more concerned about their shareholders than their employees. While it will look good on paper or in a portfolio, the quality of work will decline as the poor workforce will increase as you continue to compromise their welfare in the name of profits. The irony is that there have been record profits, but it isn't enough. The final quarter of 2014 will show an even hire trend, as fuels prices have dropped significanly. Yet, while you say have to changes to what you offer employees because of the high cost of doing business, due to fuel - you're excuse holds no water as oil prices have dropped to two decades low and on its way to three decades. You making even MORE money as result.

I have been working at Southwest Airlines

    Pros

    Flexibility
    Fun at work
Ability to do what is right for our Customers

    Cons

The contracts dragging out......adding too many HDQ top heavy spots

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let's just be done with these contracts already. It's making us look bad. Also please stop adding to the top. Too many chiefs

I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I work the ramp and love being outdoors and the work out I get. The flexibility is great and if there is a seat the flight benefit is awesome.

    Cons

The people can be cut throat. You have to watch your back with co-workers. The kool-aid only flows in Dallas. Its a wonderful job, its the people who are not. No union contracts are making people angry. We are well paid if you are a senior agents, most who have only graduated from high school. We get paid to sit in a breakroom with a tv for half our shifts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring back culture and address the bullying that goes on in the workfield.
