    OK For A Big Company

Senior Lead Project Engineer (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsSpectra is an established big company with big company benefits. A leader in natural gas storage and a major player in natural gas transportation.

ConsSpectra is a big company. Some of the internal groups tend to try to act like a small company when in fact the big company layers of bureaucracy and politics exist and are in full effect.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

ProsWe work here to live and the company supports that concept
    Great place to get experience

ConsEval processis "rigged". Meaning the 1 to 5 scale is really a 1 to 4. So basically here at Spectra you will always be an average employee.
Office politics - really bad here.
Salary is on the low side

Advice to Senior ManagementEvaluations shuld be honest.
Senior Management seems to know where they are taking the company
Unable to advance - my fear is that I will me stuck in this postion until I get a better offer

ConsPay is not at market, not much room for growth

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease base salary for employees!!!

    Solid industry, ok company

    Senior Accountant (Current Employee)
    Calgary, AB (Canada)

ProsGood benefits and laid back work atmosphere.
    Mentorship program in place.
Industry with lots of potential when gas prices pick up.

ConsOpportunities to move up, let alone sideways, are few and far between.
Management needs to encourage employee development & communicate with employees better, the only manager that I know did that left.
I find it interesting that SET West has not been officially named "The employer of choice" in the media like Union Gas and the Houston office.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue pushing the mentorship program
Provide training for management so they can become effective leaders for employees.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Good company but lot of internal politics!

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSome of the best reasons to work here: Benefits and flexible hours.

ConsIf you do not have a fair manager possibly you will be kept in the dark with no future prospect.

Great company for benefits not so much for career growth

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsSpectra provides one of the best benefits package in the industry - add to that the 9/80 work schedule OR 1 day/week telecommuting option is just great.

ConsSpectra's middle management is aging and are happy maintaining status quo till they retire - you'll do good at this company if you just follow your supervisor without questioning why and how things are being done.

Advice to Senior ManagementBring more young blood into middle management - provide a clear career path for individuals who show promise and recognize them for their contributions.
