I have been working at Spectrum Brands full-time

    Pros

The people here want to do the right thing, make improvements where needed. Always acquiring new businesses and expanding segments of the business to grow the brands.

    Cons

The structure is so middle management heavy it makes things cumbersome. No real leaders who drive change. Mainly people trying to fly under the radar and not upset the layer of management above them. Not a clear path for upward mobility, if you are good at what you are doing it feels like you will be kept in the same role and not groomed for the next step.

    Advice to Management

Recognize/reward your people who are making good things happen. Whether it be the operations or production floor, there is hard work being done to grow the brand and keep customers happy.

I have been working at Spectrum Brands as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

It feels like a lower pressure company and everyone is inviting and fairly intelligent.

    Cons

Product categories can be quit boring and things move slow.

    Advice to Management

Help your employees use their BU understanding to make their products better, less company wide initiatives

  6. Great place to develop your skills

    Pros

Very fast-paced business where you can learn a lot. You need to be quick on your toes and self sufficient, but if you take initiative, you can move up. Benefits are standard for a large company.

    Cons

work/life balance can be a challenge. There is a lack of overall company training for new hires which not only creates silos between departments, but places additional stress on support teams in helping get other teams up to speed on processes.

    Advice to Management

Continue to improve communication with employees during organizational changes to prevent fear and overall bad morale. Keep up the employee health programs.

    Pros

Good company to start in. The team was very accommodating and great to work with. My manager allowed me the freedom to work independently but was also very helpful when I needed help.

    Cons

The biggest Con to working at Spectrum Brands was the low rate of pay for interns. Personally, I was only making $12 an hour for a position that would yield close to $20 at an another company. However, I did lack the on job experience at the time.

    Pros

I work with some of the best people in the industry and have really been able to grow professionally.

    Cons

The business itself can sometimes be reduced to almost a commodity due to import brands in the market

    Advice to Management

People are the life of this business and the relationships they build make the difference. Take care of your most valuable asset!
