I have been working at Spectrum Brands as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

There is so much to learn but the managers do a great job of making sure new hires are trained and comfortable to begin working. The atmosphere is professional yet laid back and fun.

    Cons

Compared to other internships, it is nice that Spectrum brands pays their interns. However most interns are capped at 40 hours per week and the pay is low.

    Advice to Management

Organize computer systems so everyone can easily find and access information.

I have been working at Spectrum Brands full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good base pay and commission. Great training and sales opportunity with room for growth. Good foot in the door at Spectrum

    Cons

No benefits & short term position. Not ideal for a candidate who is looking for benefits, but in time it can open many doors.

    Advice to Management

Educate candidates on the average amount of commission and tell them hard work will get them in full-time

    Pros

Fantastic work experience! I took this interim job to cover for a maternity leave and would certainly join the organization if the opportunity developed.

    Cons

None that I can think of.

I have been working at Spectrum Brands full-time

    Pros

Fairly large organization with an abundance of cross-functional exposure and development. Extroverted go-getters will be promoted fairly quickly in this place. A very lean operation that achieves goals with minimal resources or waste; a lot can be learned from the metrics and collaboration techniques between departments. Leadership makes an effort to connect with all generations of employees, and the millennial group is making the greatest impact at this time. Team-building activities are frequent.

    Cons

Typical corporate mentality of a publicly traded company, no different than others; Although a lot of attention and opportunity is available to the employees, the financials at the end of every quarter will always take precedence and this can be disheartening at times. Introverts can go unnoticed or even let go if they do not learn how to be more outspoken.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. The company is a good steward of great #1 brands, taking market share, becoming more profitable every day, and increasing the stock value for Spectrum Brands' shareholders.

I have been working at Spectrum Brands full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The constant change and growth provides for many opportunities to learn, grow and move around internally. If you express interest in other areas people will listen. The people are great to work with. Bonus payouts for 6+ years.

    Cons

Work life balance can be a challenge if you let it; no one is going to make you go home. You need to be an adult, manage your workload and it won't be a problem.

    Advice to Management

You cannot keep adding businesses without adding staff and expect employees to be effective in their roles. Teams are lean - need to add some staff.
