Former Employee – worked at Spectrum Health part-time for less than a year
Pros – Pros: The free membership, being able to workout for free. most of the gym members are friendly members are friendly and can meet good connections, a plus is the gym is clean.
Cons – Too many hours there not working because clients too spread out, not enough pay, some staff are not that friendly or helpful
Advice to Senior Management – Focus on helping employees and better training.

Current Employee – been working at Spectrum Health full-time for more than a year
Pros – Poor benefits, low pay, management focused and not pro employee
Cons – Management is uneducated, male focused "good ol boy mentality" . Human resource is not there for you when you have a concern.
Advice to Senior Management – Look past the mentality and focus on capability
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at Spectrum Health as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – Spectrum has great potential and lots of money to make things happen. Their direction for patient's to have one stop shopping for start to finish medical care is a worthy goal. Facilities are top notch.
Cons – Unfortunately, different entities in the system are not well coordinated and work awkwardly together in the cases that I have seen. There is a great focus on quality control and backward looking metrics, such as problem reporting and corrective action documentation. Too little resources are devoted to adequate staffing and support so that the problems don't occur in the first place.
Advice to Senior Management – You are trying to fix a system that is inherently flawed, instead of creating systems with the right people in place to get tasks done correctly the first time. Many entities in the organization do not have a sense of urgency with regard to proper patient care.

Former Employee – worked at Spectrum Health
Pros – great benefits, some excellent people to work with, leading healthcare hospital in the community
Cons – Worked for SH for just shy of 10 years. In those 10 years, the organization has grown by leaps and bounds...to the benefit of the community, but to the detrement of it's staff. SH wants to be the best, brightest and biggest and that's great. But, the senior leadership is breaking the backs of it's essential and hard working staff. You are expected to more and more with shrinking resources, less staffing. I'm not against hard work but when that hard work is not recognized or, worse yet, not matched by senior leadership...it makes for a very adversarial place to work. Some leadership are too busy trying to claw their way to the top of the organization that they do not care who gets caught in the crosshairs or who they step on to get there.

Current Employee – been working at Spectrum Health
Pros – Great Teamwork, Exciting job oppurtunities, Good benefits, The employees in the field are wonderful and the commitment to customer service has been as asset to this company
Cons – Sometimes there is a very short window of time to place employees into open positions but everyone works as a team and it gets done.
Advice to Senior Management – I wish the bonus scale was a little better and compensation was up to par with other companies in the area.

Former Employee – worked at Spectrum Health
Pros – The pay is great, and because of their reputation, deserved or not, working at Spectrum is a good resume booster.
Cons – I did not like the hours, but if you like 12 hour shifts it's not so bad. The management is totally incompetent and promotions are based on favoritism not performance.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your employees. You are a health care industry, so your employees are mostly educated and have legitimate opinions on best practices.

Current Employee – been working at Spectrum Health
Pros – It is a very large, well-respected, quality healthcare provider in a beautiful city. They have great health incentives for their employees and offer discounts on insurance, exercise programs, classes and exercise equipment. They try to emphasize healthy habits and reward those who live by good example. I believe you must practice what you preach when you work in the healthcare field.
Cons – Benefits are not equal within this employer. Hospital employees have benefits that off-site employees do not get (ie Pension). Those who work off-site have the same stressors and responsibilities as those employees within the hospital and thus should be rewarded with the same benefits.
Advice to Senior Management – Pay attention to what lower level managers do. When you start to get a lot of turnover in a department which previously retained employees, it is a red flag that management may be a problem and is driving away previously loyal employees.

Former Employee – worked at Spectrum Health full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – -Clean work environment.
-They look at average salary, it's nice to know they understand how to look at least.
-You can get any job there with just about any degree because "equivalent degree" to any technical degree includes basket weaving and water polo.
-If you sleep on the job and or play Sudoku you will get the same raise as someone who puts in hundreds of extra hours and goes the extra mile.
-If you master the phrases "That is not my job." "I can't help you." "Closing your request" you will meet all the statistical requirements for your job and exceed all management expectations.
-HR and Management are easy to snowball as they know nothing technical, will ask nothing technical, and expect you to do nothing technical.
Cons – -If you work hard, dedicate yourself, have the proper degree and credentials, you will be rewarded with....: the exact same raise as the guy playing Sudoku, the nurse who watches the TV's in the patient room all day, or the security guard who leaves the doors to restricted rooms wide open. You will also be reprimanded by management because in the process of actually working you will be blamed when something goes wrong because "you did that".
Advice to Senior Management – You would literally have to fire every manager in the place, corruption and "Big Business Thinking" is so part of the culture, start over.

Pros – A growing and progressive organization; fast paced; looking to the future; emphasize quality, which you would expect at a hopital; value education
