Used to be good now it is just money driven

    Purchasing Specialist (Current Employee)
    Fort Lauderdale, FL

ProsA good experience & well-known name for your resume. The people were the best part. Good environment to connect with your peers and grow.

ConsVery political. No internal stability - a lot of change manangement. No clear communications of reporting structures and requirements. Too many blurred lines.

    Depends on office environment

    Administrative Support (Current Employee)
    Johnstown, PA

ProsManagement seemed like a great team, however their salary offering was very low.

ConsThe office where I was at was dependent on an incompetent manipulative envious female.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire, train and warn the next person coming into that office of the one women-show.

    Misleading on commission

    Senior Technical Recruiter (Former Employee)
    Alpharetta, GA

ProsLarge company, many clients. The work/life balance was very good.

ConsThe margins they work tend to be smaller than average and the commission structure is split between the recruiter and the salesperson, making the commission structure very low. The idea also seemed to be volume, so they chased away most of the senior talent. Since I left, none of the senior recruiters in my office work there anymore. It looks like they have tried to hire entry level recruiters so that they can manage via submittals, not the quality of the submittals.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to hold on to your better recruiters. Pay a better commission structure.

Spherion MSA's . . . at least their checks clear the bank

    Contract Administrator (Former Employee)
    Roseville, CA

ProsI worked for Spherion under a Managed Service Agreement At Hewlett-Packard in Roseville, CA. Spherion was brought in to take over a portion of the Customer Ops business at Hewlett-Packard in Roseville, CA starting in 2003.

ConsMany HP Contract Admin were forced over to Spherion from HP after years of service with no choice in the matter. Employees were told that their employment at HP was terminated and refusal to accept the Spherion job meant you would NOT be able to draw unemployment and you were out on the street

The first thing Spherion did was hire NEW Contract Admin at $13.00 an hour, this was a job that started at $19.00 an hour under HP. The Spherion Operations manager than made a huge deal about all the money they had saved HP by doing this. Once those $13.00 an hour CA's hit the floor, they were gone within a 6-month period. The next round of CA's were hired at a staggering $14.00 an hour. They lasted no more than a couple of years and were gone to better paying jobs. The whole time, Spherion continued it's rant about being a cost-savings SUPER solutions provider that HP respected and trusted.

In 2011, HP started taking back most of it's jobs from Spherion and sending other jobs to Costa Rica cutting Spherion out.

The Spherion model is a bad thing for most companies and employees!

    - Spherion under pay their employees
    - Spherion expects delivery from employees not possible at their salary points
    - Spherion has very poor, expensive benefits packages
    - advancement at a Spherion MSA is 0 to none
    - what few opportunities there are end up being appointed to friends of upper management.
    - Most employees lose all respect for the employeer that brings Spherion on-site

At one point, there was a person that worked part-time just to contest unemployment claims of people that Spherion had let go for one reason or another. They also liked to let people go, than call them back to work for a couple of dollars an hour less. If you refused, they would have their "Special Agent" notify EDD that you were refusing work!

If you see a job and it's with Spherion...RUN AWAY!

Advice to Senior ManagementThanks for the years of outstanding leadership and a total lack of development.

    Applications Consultant

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSteady employment provided with a wide variety of consulting engagements, variety of assignments and opportunity for increased responsibilities... if the account manager likes you, that is.

ConsYou're just a number to the account manager. If I knew what else to write here to fill in the twenty words, I would offer the insights.

My experience at Spherion was disappointing, to say the least.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Birmingham, AL

ProsThe interview process and screening is conducted professionally.

ConsPoor rapport between worksite and home office. Completely disengaged from employee concerns. No electronic time-clock. Late with uniforms.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllocate management of employees better. Your client is capable of being dishonest about employee performance. Hiring then firing on a whim and being dishonest to recoup unemployment funds is in no way acceptable behavior for a company entrusted to provide employment.
