Good job, pay OK

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Sports Authority full-time

ProsI worked in the Corporate office headquarters in the training group for over 7 years. Pretty good management, no micro-managing. I had plenty of work to do, but didn't feel overwhelmed. Had a nice workout facility right in the building I worked in, which I used at lunch time. Overall, it was a good experience!

ConsProgram to give monetary spot bonuses paid very little; no consistent annual bonus program for corporate employees across the board. Would have liked to have had the opportunity to be promoted to a "senior" level in my position, but a "senior" level position wasn't even defined.

Great job, lots of fun!

Certified Sales Authority (Former Employee)
Milford, MA

I worked at Sports Authority full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAccomodating hours - Always willing to work your schedule around school, family, etc.
Great people - Staff became like a second family. Great to work with and be around.
Discount - The discount was great!
Management had your back - Willing to stand up for you in any issues.

ConsManagement was very clique-ey - Sometimes...

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a step back and evaluate your relationships with employees. It's great that there's a strong bond between the two, but employees need to know that you're still their manager. There needs to be a better balance in that aspect.

Sales Associate

Sales Associate (Current Employee)

I have been working at Sports Authority part-time for less than a year

ProsFun work environment. Great co-workers/ management. Flexible hours. Good employee discount... (Take half of full retail price, then add 15% of the half off price, plus tax.... Something that retails for $100 for example: $100, half of $100 = $50. 15% of $50=$7.5....$50+$7.5 = $57.5. You would pay $57.5 plus tax.) Which would 99.9% of the time equal a greater discount than any coupon would.

ConsNone really, some times it gets slow/boring, but that's just work in general. As a Cashier, management will be on your back about the number of customers you get to sign up for their rewards program. 75% of the customers really aren't interested in it in any way. However management wont be very happy with your performance if you don't manage to sign up if 40% of the customers you ring up.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf customers don't want to sign up for the rewards program, its not because of my "sales pitch" its because they just aren't interested. If they don't wanna sign up they're not going to sign up. I can't force them. Aside from that. I enjoy every other aspect of this company.
