I have been working at Sports Authority full-time

    Pros

Culture is very good, management makes you feel appreciated for your hard work. Very good benefits such as health/dental, great retail discounts, onsite gym, yoga and pilates classes midday, Friday Summer hours program is nice to be able to leave at noon for the mountains, etc. The Employee Thanks program is unique and helps to provide a positive attitude around the office. There is also an active number of sports teams and leagues at SA.

    Cons

Some of the software applications should be upgraded or changed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Sports Authority as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Empolyees are amazing to work with.

    Cons

Number and goals that you have to meet are kind of ridiculous. Had to have more than 40% of customers sign up for store discount card or you would get yelled at.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep doing what you're doing.

I have been working at Sports Authority full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits, discounts, internal development, training, and many advancements from within. With new CEO in place we are beginning to see a good future. Highly supportive of him. People person and speaks to everyone. He is just not all talk. Does what he says. Foss is the right guy.

    Cons

Work Life Balance. Changing of 3 CEO in the last 6 years. No hunt and fishing in stores.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work life balance. People need to spend time with their families on Thanksgiving and Easter Sunday. Corporate office receive many perks but stores are left with pictures from how much fun they have in Denver.
Benefit perks are for Denver based. There needs to be funds for team building. We see pictures all the time of Denver having fun doing, races, runs and events.

I have been working at Sports Authority full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great service atmosphere for customers and employees, great discount and a decent balance between work and home, especially considering its retail! Managers are supportive and helpful and seem to always be vested in their employees success.

    Cons

Pleasing customers, having the right product, maintaining the store and going through corporate visits!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As a whole, I think the managers do a good job running the store while also trying to keep both customers and employees happy. And that can be very challenging in a retail environment. I'd say some advice to corporate is to get a more updated computer system and a better online warehouse!

I have been working at Sports Authority part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I loved working in Team Sports, loved helping customers and being able to use my sports knowledge in an effort to help customers. They dont ask much from associates other than to simply approach customers and at least try and make some sales, which is not terribly difficult when people are mindlessly staring at random products. Loved the benefits of working there, good hours, great managers.

    Cons

Incredibly boring when no.customers are present. Often spent my time playing street hockey in the aisles or bouncing tennis balls for hours. Had a 36 hour sale once and had three customers come in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Market better.

I have been working at Sports Authority full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

A strong focus on doing things the right way; more merchandising freedom than at most big box retailers due to the seasonality. New CEO seems to care about people.

    Cons

Unrealistic budgets make it difficult to earn much bonus. The big stores get loaded with merchandise but the smaller ones are starved for it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Merchandise the smaller stores deeper in certain categories and get out of others.
