Mismanaged Company

Implementation Project Manager (Former Employee)
Austin, TX

I worked at Sprint full-time for more than 10 years

ProsWorked from home 6 years of the 13 I was employed.

ConsSprint as a whole does not know how to manage business accounts in the slightest. Wrong idea to swallow up Nextel and then kill off the iDen network. This is a top down company and your ideas are scuffed off when you have a good idea, Didn't have a raise in 7 years because of the financial down fall the company was in.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to be more proactive in actually caring how the employee is doing. I only seen my manager once a year since he was 400 miles away fro my office.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Management not up to par and no real room for advancement

Retail Sales Consultant (Current Employee)
West Palm Beach, FL

I have been working at Sprint full-time for more than a year

ProsGood company to learn sales techniques, learning how to deal with angry customers and diffuse the sitation.

ConsMust work overtime in order to hit sales quota. Also, sales quota increases every month that you meet or exceed it in the previous month. About 7 months out of the year are slow for retail so you make no money on commission, while hourly is pennies. Most issues are with defect phones and devices so dealing with angry customers all day, especially since the service is terrible in all of South Florida. Micro management

Advice to Senior ManagementNo motivation for 7 months out of the year, work on incentives and positive team atmosphere

I have been working at Sprint full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood pay for the experience and education level (if you don't have collage)

ConsExcessively stressful. no option to grow. For people with education is not worth it.
They change to often pay structure, sometimes every 6 months.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more fair with employees. Don't change the pay structure so often.
Create a less stressful environment.

Sprint…Nice company to work for…maybe in 2 years

ASM (Current Employee)
Providence, RI

I have been working at Sprint full-time for more than a year

ProsNew ownership with Softbank has injected capital and energy into retail channel. Network is, well, horrible. Struggle to get signal even in store. Forced to tap into wifi at Starbucks to access any type of data speeds….Even though tower can be seen from front of store. New company leadership does understand network issues, but real fix may be years away.

ConsTraffic in stores is down…Big time. Huge emphasis in selling TEP and accessories. Sales associates rarely make over 2K in commission in a month….Never happen for an ASM.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore team building events. Better commission structure. More vacation time. Make it a little more fun to want to come to work.

Decent pay good benefits

Lead Retail Consultant (Current Employee)
Minneapolis, MN

I have been working at Sprint full-time

ProsGood Benefits,Decent Pay,Fun Learning experience.

ConsVery poor leadership in the retail channel up the the director level. Above the director level seems to be good and have great initiatives. Unfortunately they are executed with one hand tied behind your back ie Take care of the customer just don't do anything that costs money like give credits that are in error. They slam alot of things on peoples account they cover themselves by saying they have to have it but they can say no but they have to have it no exceptions. Also the different departments are always fighting with each other there is not unification. Lots of customer getting pushed to the website then to care then to the store only to be pushed back, I can only give my experience in the midwest market other markets may be different.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf i am being honest find a new Director and DM in the Midwest. The Director tries to get the right job done but there is no follow through and poor support. Internal hiring is very political its about who you buddy up to not what skills you have maybe you could make it a priority to only hire employees from cross locations and you may be able to bring some fresh views into the stores increase performance.

Shady management, corporate is clueless.

Retail Sales Consultant (Current Employee)
Los Angeles, CA

I have been working at Sprint full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat pay, great experience (looks good on resume), fun work environment usually. Fairly easy to move up.

ConsSales are shady anywhere but Sprint takes the cake. I lie to customers daily to please my boss. We have weekly meetings to discuss quota numbers and daily outliers calls if you aren't hitting your quota. Management lies and manipulates employees to get better performance. Overall, to be successful you must leave your morals home and step on some toes if you want to get to the top.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop lying to employees and manage on the principle of respect, not fear. Stop threatening that I will lose my job if I don't perform better

– I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Interesting Experience

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Sprint

ProsThe salary/bonus structure is certainly generous and now that merit increases have resumed, salaries are back on a growth trajectory. On site amenities (health center, covered parking, pharmacy, gym) are great as well as the benefits offered. In many areas, working from home a day or two a week was allowed/encouraged. In general, the people are great and a positive part of the company.

ConsMorale is a big issue and the very unstable environment and frequent layoffs don't help. The instability also leads to very limited opportunities for moves or advancement. Another thing to consider is that since this is a communications company and they provide free cell service, in many areas there is an expectation of 24/7 availability (including vacations).

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in training and creating good managers and employees, then retain them.

Broken Company

Lead Sales Consultant (Current Employee)
Phoenix, AZ

I have been working at Sprint full-time for less than a year

ProsWorked with a great team. Store management was awesome. Plans have lots of potential if the service was at least mediocre. Free phone service for one device.

ConsCommission was cut back, Quota doubled between November and February. Stores, call centers, and tech services are closing. People are being laid off & turnover is high because of the company culture. Training for new products is the worse that I've seen with any company.

Advice to Senior ManagementHaving towers down for days, weeks, and months (Yes, months!) at a time is unacceptable. Rolling out 4G LTE to some tiniest markets and not large metropolitan areas is unacceptable.

With a name like Sprint, how did you get so far behind?

Challenging.

Retention Specialist (Current Employee)
Rancho Cordova, CA

I have been working at Sprint full-time for less than a year

ProsThe pros of working for Sprint was the monthly bonus and attendance award. Another plus was the opportunity for overtime.

ConsThe main con for this job was the customer surveys. No matter how hard you worked if a customer gives you a bad survey or no survey at all, you are doomed.
