    Pros

    -Working with other gamers.
    -Casual dress.

    Cons

    - Very low pay for what is a pretty mentally demanding job.

-Ridiculousl time management restrictions like clocking out for break, only getting 10 minutes per week away from desk time to use the restroom while not on your break.

    - Low worker morale due to low pay and high turnover.

    - As a contract employee, you are seen as totally expendable and receive no benefits other than the minimum required under obamacare.

    - Management promotes who they like, not who works hardest or has the highest quality work.

-Square Enix is so cheap they have a very successful AAA game being run by a small handful of actual Square Employees (Who also make very little money) with little to no management or work experience managing a ton of contract workers who get no benefits and are paid peanuts.

-The actual Square Enix employees that have been there for years are lazy, complacent, and rigidly close minded when it comes to new policies.

There is no development done at all at the El Segundo, CA office. This is the last place you would want to work if you hoped to get into the Gaming industry.

    Advice to Management

Square Enix drop Eastridge Workforce Solutions and hire all of your North American staff as true Square employees with regular benefits such as paid time off, sick leave, etc. Shame on you for not providing your employees with a living wage and benefits.

    Pros

For trying to break into the video game industry, you couldn't find a better place to do QA Testing than Square Enix. The environment was well lit and kept cool (sometimes a little too cool) and you're constantly surrounded by SE merch. Getting to talk with your coworkers is easy and encouraged, and everyone there is very helpful and super friendly. Food was brought in and shared at LEAST once a week.

    Cons

The turnaround is pretty fast. People come and go and moving up is (I hear) very hard. I've also heard that some pretty major changes happened to the QA dept after I moved on. I hope the environment is still as great as it was when I was there.

    Advice to Management

    Please keep being so cool.

    Pros

Good benefits. Company is stable. You will learn a ton either by being taught but mostly by just doing it.

    Cons

Very slow to promote. Low compensation and can be long hours (if you let it).

    Advice to Management

Fair compensation that meets industry standards.

    Pros

Flexible hours allowing for a good work-life balance.
    Central office.
    Health benefits.

    Cons

I don't think this applies to all departments, but I work there under very abusive and incompetent management and have to deal with a disastrous workflow and with bullying every day, and for pennies, too. One day I decided to talk about it with my manager. I think this short extract from the reply I faced says it all: "Being happy at work is not the norm. Just because you're unhappy doesn't mean I have to do something about it." Welcome to Square Enix.

    Advice to Management

    Improve (sorry: start, simply) training
    Improve pay
Understand that a happy employee is a productive employee, stop bullying and start rewarding.

  10. Helpful (6)

Bad management, no training or career opportunities. Always told "you should be glad you have a job" mentality.

    Pros

Interesting products. Some nice people to work with.

    Cons

Abusive management. No respect for the workforce. Promises by senior managers never followed through. Awful work environment and extremely low morale. I expect the London office will close before end of 2014.

    Advice to Management

Act as you expect your workers to. Make an effort to leave your offices and talk to your staff.

  11. Not the same old Square Enix

    Pros

The company has changed quite a bit from what I have heard. Used to be only a publishing arm for Japan but now the group is creating and publishing their own products in the digital space. Huge growth in the past couple of months.

    Cons

A ton of meetings. Sometimes it feels like very little is accomplished in the meetings as many are update meetings and not very action oriented.

    Advice to Management

Allow people to continue to grow creatively. Encourage learning. Continue the team building events, and continue to give employees input to the games you are creating. Empower employees to succeed.
