    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Standard Chartered Bank

    Pros

The marathon that you get to run for

    Cons

This was my first sales job and happened to be my first job too.
We were given no practical on the job training whatsoever.
The front line sales force face a similar plight across India. You will be thrown out on the streets to fetch your targets.
And even if one is putting in hard work and not achieving his /her target he or she will be shouted at and humiliated in front of other team members.
Management does not believe in giving feed back in person or private but in front of a many people as possible.
The is absolutely no amount of motivation that the sales force gets from the management.

I left on a bad note dissatisfied and unhappy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please take interest in your front line sales in India
Please consider giving them a good hand holding off things
Please adopt measures to motivate them from time to time (Front line sales force)

I have been working at Standard Chartered Bank

    Pros

Never been a good bank in the last 10 years because shareholders too fragmented, senior mgmt kept changing, ousted by different camp every few years.

    Cons

Highly paid ex Citibankers, Europeans and Indians replaced Singaporeans, old timers in the Bank, people who built the bank up in the past. The newcomers brought along people from their same background not by merits, but to shore up political connections.

People who do work on the ground are not rewarded, while people who focused on managing their bosses get promoted. In the end, the good people left. Nobody is left to work. The bank is filled with highly paid sycophants.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Board should fire Peter Sands. The ex Citibank, European and Indian camps should be broken up, majority should be fired. The largest shareholder should put more Singaporean talents on senior positions.

I have been working at Standard Chartered Bank

    Pros

Had the opportunity to experience the HFG days where the values were lived. Above avg health coverage. Above avg salary.

    Cons

    Slow promotion
    Massive changes and restructuring
No idea what the top is thinking

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We are more than numbers in the organisation. We used to stand for something. We used to be HFLR, HFP, HFG.

    Are we still living that?

I worked at Standard Chartered Bank full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They do not fire people easily.
Good for back office - very powerful, a bit too powerful
    Friendly culture

    Cons

    Lots of deadwood
Top management fixated on old strategy that is broken and needs to be fixed. But no management will to fix
Tend to promote people of certain nationalities irregardless of competence or track record
No appetite to do real business and create value for client
Very difficult to be a front line investment banker

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change strategy - time to onboard new clients and bring the bank back on a path of growth.
SCB used to be a great place - but after Aug 2012, everything just fell apart. I do hope SCB can get back its mojo...
