    Not too bad.

    Structural Designer (Former Employee)

ProsThe benefits and overall security is great. The company is always growing and is constantly finding new areas to expand into. Financially the company is secure.

ConsSome company disconnect from the top. Many of the profit centers are left to make tough decisions in regard to personnel. The company at times has too much of a macro view.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to focus on becoming more transparent and allowing the everyday employee to better understand the management team and the basis of the decisions that are made.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ConsStantec bought the company I worked for, the transition was difficult and we all felt like second rate citizens.

I enjoyed the culture but felt under appreciated.

Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) Lombard, IL

ProsGood learning experience right out of college. Friendly office experience.

ConsNot competitive salary-wise, at least at the bottom. Poor annual review process. No raises or even cost of living raises. Forced employees to use their vacation days the week after Christmas for 2 years in a row.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive US branches more holidays to be comparable to what the Canada branches get.

    Overall good company

    Engineer (Former Employee) Rocklin, CA

ProsPay is at or above average for the engineering industry. They have good benefits and an employee stock ownership program. The company will provide you the opportunity to work on large engineering projects.

ConsYour career may stagnate. In all fairness, this is probably more a result of the economy rather than the company. However, organic growth instead of the current practice of acquiring companies could be used to develop geographical regions. This might provide internal talent with an opportunity to develop their career and move up in the organization.

Advice to Senior ManagementDay to day profit center and office management is good. At the corporate level, pursue organic growth and use internal talent to develop that growth.

    So far so good.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood leaders and supervisors that listen to your goals and have a mutual interest in developing the company as well as employees.

ConsLarge company, not the personal feel that you would get at a smaller company.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe true leaders. Understand the issues and recognize that Stantec has not only a responsibility to stockholders, but also to employees.

    Designer (Current Employee) Rochester, NY

ProsStantec is a Large Company with Good Benefits and Good Resouces. Despite the economy, they have had a very productive year. There are many employees and it allows for access to a wide knowledge base. There is opportunity to explore many different types of jobs because it is a multifaceted organization. It is on the cutting edge for energy efficient design and has many LEED accredited professionals. It's health and pharmacy benefits are very comprehensive and Aetna is accepted at most hospitals throughout the country. They have a 401k plan with matching contribution up to 3 percent and they match one percent on their Employee stock ownership plan.

ConsPossible to get lost if you do not promote yourself.

Buy a transportation firm with a backlog of Caltrans work

Transportation Project Manager (Current Employee) Sacramento, CA

ProsDiverse opportunities, good atmosphere when work is available

ConsSlow adoption of new technology. Examples:not allowed to work from home, not enough smart phones, lousy phone system, no video conferencing, not allowed to relocate closer to home in another Stantec office.

Advice to Senior ManagementSee above. Get involved with retention and cast a vision for transportation before it completely collapses! Send in your SWAT Team and teach us how to develop new business the Stantec way.
