    Pros

Innovative company that isn't afraid to make changes to remain relevant and competitive. Great support and camaraderie amongst store management within districts and company wide. Friendly, service oriented atmosphere which promotes a fun, yet professional environment.

    Cons

Change comes at a drastic cost resulting in immediate heavier burdens and responsibility changes with little to no training or preparation. High turnover as a result. Customers are extremely rude. With recent management and payroll cuts, it has become increasingly difficult to service the customers to their expectations.

    Advice to Management

Due to high turnover, promotions are rushed. Associates are placed in supervisory/management positions without the proper training and experience. This in turn makes it more difficult for the management team to run an effective business. Senior managers don't have a realistic sense of what it takes to effective run the business as planned. Customer complaints have increased mostly due to overworked staff and less associates available.

    Pros

A lot of soft items such as culture, ease of commute, environmnet, name recognition

    Cons

Don't try to make a living here. The old adage "you get what you pay for" really applies. The company is just so short-sighted, thinking they can hire and retain good people for pennies on the dollar.

    Advice to Management

Slow to respond to market. Talent is sorely looking.

    Pros

Management was fairly young and lively. They also provided a base salary and a paid week-long sales training program.

    Cons

Unfortunately, micromanagement along with the nature of the job was the downfall. It consisted of mostly cold calling and door-to-door business sales. The people weren't all that great either and the environment was very cliquey. Needless to say, I didn't enjoy it or see a promising future, so I got out pretty quickly.

    Advice to Management

Be as honest as possible during the interview process to avoid high turnover. A lot of people who were recruited (including myself) mentioned that the job was misleading. Honesty will help you find a better fit and give candidates the opportunity to figure out if it's really a good fit for them as well.

    Pros

Flexible hours, opportunity to learn new things, good job if you are going to school.

    Cons

During the time I worked with Staples employees were paid progressively worse and worse. For many years I was able to give my employees raises in an impromptu manner for consistently going above and beyond what was required of them. Then it was modified and I could only give annual raises. Then it was modified again, and I could no longer control how much the annual raise would be; rather, a computer program would decide based on the data inputted. At this point the annual raises had fallen to a ridiculous level. One year the best raise any employee in my store received was $0.07 an hour. This is a poor way to maintain morale.

    Pros

The employees is great to work with. You have some great managers. The benefits is good.

    Cons

The only way to get promoted is set at a desk and do your homework during company hours. Starting rate of pay could of been much better.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to go in investigate some of your managers. All managers should have a BA degree. They should also change how they promote employees to supervisors and managers.
