Starwood SVO IS A GOOD COMPANY TO WORK FOR

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Orlando, FL

ProsGood hot rates but still high for the average employee will never find $49.00 always higher, vacation benefits good when you start,2 weeks first year 3 weeks second year.

Cons4 weeks vacation after 10 years, overworked and under pay. Yearly increases very low, managers state the company is not doing well. Fritz sends out quarterly earnings and it is the opposite. Higher Management gets bonuses, high salaries etc.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink about your people who makes the money for the company and are close to the owners . The little increase you gave the supervisors last year was a good gesture but did not place us where we need to be in the salary range. Your supervisors works diligently to make the agents perform at their best, they can only do so much if the pay is not good. Starting salary for a phone agent $11.00 for the last 7-8 years. Figure it out. Think about your agents and supervisors this year 2014. Share the wealth and people will stay with the company. Send your team from CT to talk to the call center associates, supervisors and resort associates you will get the answer. Care more for your employees well being it is part of the culture and values which you are not delivering. Upper management in Orlando do not care.

Starwood Finance Intern (Former Employee) Orlando, FL

ProsGreat location, Pay is competitive to industry standard, real assignments that have a lasting impact on company. Great people to work with.

ConsNo growth opportunities and no full time positions available. But this maybe because its in the timeshare industry.

    Be very careful...

Vacation Planning Counselor (Former Employee) Orlando, FL

ProsFriendly and professional staff, great hotel/resort discounts, good amount of time off.

ConsRequired forfeiture of legal rights, some employees are subcontractors, high deductible medical insurance, extremely high turnover rate, micromanaged at all levels, no advancement opportunities.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

it was great minus the supervisor

Vacation Services Coordinator (VSC) (Former Employee) Princeville, HI

Proshours flexibility and unlimited earnings potential

ConsHorrible supervisor, nitpicky about everything from hand writing to directions.

Advice to Senior ManagementTop performers don't make good supervisors

    Great hotels, par company

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsWonderful hotels and resorts and excellent training.

ConsThey pay people only the median of the average between all companies. It doesn't matter if you have tons of experience they will only pay you the average. If you want the best, you pay for the best or the best will go somewhere else. Which I did.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour company has so much promise. As far as the customers are concerned you are fantastic, but you have a long way to go when it comes to taking care of your employees.

    It could have been better

    "All about the Culture"

Vacation Planning Counselor (Current Employee) Orlando, FL

    Pros- They try to care
    - They try really hard to get you to succeed

    Cons-Average if not low pay
-Many people who call are angry and take it all out on you
-They have so many rules they can't even keep them all straight
-They punish you for not knowing all the rules when they miss some themselves
    -NO room for advancement
    -a lot of favoritism

Advice to Senior ManagementYou say you hire people for their potential and talent, but you do not give them the opportunity to use that potential or talent, because you micromanage so hard. You also need to listen to the people who are on the phone every day, because they are more knowledgeable about what is going on with the customers than you are.

    Sales Associate/Concierge

Sales Associate (Former Employee) Lahaina, HI

ProsEnjoyed helping guests with finding activities while they are on their vacation

ConsSales quotas/matrix challenging to fulfill. Employees get demerits if not meeting quota. 3 demerits your fired.

It's who you know, not what you know.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Orlando, FL

ProsOverall, the company promotes unity and communication.

ConsIf you fall into the wrong department and management doesn't like necessarily your style and it doesn't fit in with the "clique" style, you become an outcast. Regardless of how your department's performance has improved year over year.

Advice to Senior ManagementNot good with change, the mentality a majority of times is "if its not broken dont fix it", my mentality is " it might not be broken but it can become better", very resistant if Sr. Leadership has been there 15+ years.

Ok if you want to retire in your position but expect no career growth.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Orlando, FL

    ProsNice work environment
    Friendly atmosphere
Some would say the hotel discount but you can do as well on hotwire

ConsStagnant career growth, the word promotion is as common as flying pigs.
    Horrible health benefits, HSA only
Little chance of any sort of significant compensation growth as nobody gets promoted

Advice to Senior ManagementLeadership is trying to hold things together battling the corporate parent to do so. I wish them the best. Seems to be decent people at the top at least. Middle managers can vary in quality but that is common in most companies.
