I have been working at State Farm full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Nice facilities, paid vacation, good benefits, free access to state farm park for Bloomington, IL employees. They encourage employees to pursue Insurance education and will pay for the classes.

    Cons

sometimes it feels as though management isn't listing to the employees. If they have a plan they don't want any negative feedback.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company going through a lot of changes right now and it can be frustrating when management makes decisions without thinking about how it will actually work in the real world. It puts a lot of stress on the people who work with customers. My advise would be to take more time speaking with the employees who work with customers on a daily basis. If something is working don't waste time trying to redesign the process.

I have been working at State Farm full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good work-life balance; benefits are good. I like the changes that are taking place, but believe they could have been better executed.

    Cons

Flexible work arrangements are nonexistent. Office culture may vary by department and manager. Opportunity for growth is limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Speak to your first-line employees before changing the workflow and process of those employees. What sounds good in theory does not allow play out well in practice.

Working with each agent is different - each agent controls his/her office. Never totally the same job.

I worked at State Farm full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The company has insurance that even to this day I still carry. The company's values and how they try to help the clients is a great value to the clients.

    Cons

Each agents office - is run the way they want and they are allowed to determine the rewards or none rewards. The idea of sales and how to get them is varied and can be questionable if the agent is only concerned with sales.

I have been working at State Farm full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Build great relationships with customers, grow in your community, feel purposeful. Work/life balance of a regular 9-5. Uncapped commission.

    Cons

The market area / agent you work for will determine how big your commission checks will be. Large rate increases and mass cancellations makes selling the value of State Farm difficult. You have to be a little greasy to be successful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Updated policy provisions, guidelines, and rate increases are driving away long-tenured Mutual customers. Service and Claims only get you so far when Company X right down the road offers a much lower rate for the same coverage.

    Pros

Great benefits, above average pay, and lots of opportunities for advancement if have education, professional background and initiative.

    Cons

Lack of training and development of employees. Managers need training, too.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at State Farm full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great company. Likely the best insurance company overall in terms of competitiveness and performance. You're always learning and can POTENTIALLY make good money doing sales, depending on which Agent you work for. I know other companies pay better, but I like what State Farm has and what they're about., for the most part.

    Cons

Home insurance prices are up and it's VERY hard to sell. Pay could be better. Agents need to focus on servicing existing customers more while staying focused on sales. Turnover seems high in agency employment terms.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Customer service: It can not be negated. Impel agents towards this more than ever, and just as much as sales. You burn customers when their bill is out of whack and when new team members screw up quotes and there is nobody there to catch the fall. Long term customers have paid lots of money to the company and they especially need some nourishment from a tender, yet firm service staff.
