I have been working at State Farm full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people are wonderful and the hours are really flexible. There is also room for growth if you decide to get your license.

    Cons

The pay could be better. Also, State Farm does not offer health insurance which seems to be counter intuitive if you think about it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Offer health insurance!!

    Pros

Great work hours and excellent brand recognition, which is very helpful when selling.

    Cons

It depends on the agent that you work for as to the tempo of the office. To be recognized you have to produce a lot of policies monthly to do well.

I have been working at State Farm full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Training availability and mentorship programs are top notch. Even when you have reached a point in your career where you may not be looking for a promotion, you can find meaningful work and have the opportunity to move across a number o f areas and work with different technologies..

    Cons

While there is significant focus on work-life balance, it is still difficult to maintain at times. Office culture is truly that of a good neighbor - its about getting the work done and getting along with others. Sometimes results suffer from this approach and individuals who are great at their jobs but a little rough around the edges may feel undervalued. Lastly, the hubs are confusing - why are we really doing this?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep communicating where we are going as a company - sometimes the strategies don't make sense to the layperson.

I have been working at State Farm full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

One of the best insurance companies to work for. Generally family oriented. Good pay and benefits with lots of opportunity IF you are willing to move or you live in an area that has a hub. Company supports continuing education and community involvement. Customer service is high priority. Company hires high quality employees and encourages long-time careers.

    Cons

Company is going through lots of change and is moving operations and claims to large hubs. Work-life balance used to be very reasonable but is unbalanced now with all the changes going on. Work load is unmanageable and customer service is suffering.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some temps or independents to get the company through this transition. Long-time, loyal, hard-working employees are suffering as is customer service. The ultimate goal is to improve customer service with the new model, but the company is going to lose customers and employees during the transition and the company reputation and ratings may suffer.

I have been working at State Farm part-time for more than a year

    Pros

State Farm is well recognized in the insurance sector and its name offers stability. Strong marketing push by head office allows for quick name recognition. The claims department is second to none.

    Cons

Some of the systems at State Farm are outdated and temperamental. On more than one occasion during your week you'll deal with a cranky underwriter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop concrete territories for agents to avoid inter company competition. Integrated CRM systems for marketing purposes would make sales staff more efficient.

I have been working at State Farm full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Knowledge is valued by longer term employees and longer term management. Training is ongoing and comprehensive. Casualty, injury work and property damage never get's old and is not boring.

    Cons

Opportunity for advancement is somewhat limited due to distance of locations. Mgmt is no longer on site which causes communication issues. We are going through a major re-organization and there is a lot of upheaval at this time. It's overwhelming at times. There is a bit of us/them between some departments but can be overcome if you work to develop relationships.
