    Pros

#1. I am proud of the work that I get to do. We are there to help our policyholders and do the right thing. #2 The people I get to work with. It is like a family. #3 My career and development are highly supported. Whatever changes have taken place, I have always been taken care of. #4 If you work hard, you have a career you can count on. They have never just cut people, or laid off to cut expenses. Every change or transition has taken place over long periods of time giving people time to find other jobs in the company.

    Cons

Mobility is required to move to upper levels of management.

    Advice to Management

Ease the mobility requirement and the candidate pool will open up.

    Pros

State Farm is a great place to work the people are friendly and the management teams are very supportive in training you to advance your career in the area you are interested

    Cons

The only downside ive found in the year ive been here is that the CSSS ( Mangers ) are only in the position for 2 years and then they have to move up in the career or move back down to the position they were before and once you get to know your manager its time for them to move on. However the upside to this is that other people interested can also advance in their career to become a CSSS.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Pros

State Farm is a great place to work! The sense of community inside and outside the company is wonderful. I've never worked for a company that is so involved in giving back to the community and making it stronger or safer.

    Cons

Working for a larger organization can be tough from an awareness perspective. It's a challenge to be aware of everything going on in the business. However, the leadership team within departments is great about sharing updates with the employees. You just have to pay attention to the bigger picture and how the work you do impacts the business goals.

    Advice to Management

Keep communicating with the employees - it makes us feel valued. Don't be afraid to solicit ideas from all employees for various initiatives that impact the enterprise. This will allow State Farm to continue innovation.

State Farm cares about the employees. We are paid well and management is very flexible when it comes to worklife issues.

    Cons

The 401k is very limited in investment options.

    Advice to Management

Continue your focus on the employees. Happy employees are hard working employees!

    Pros

State Farm is a stable foundation. When folks are young, they like to be on the bleeding edge of the workforce and technology and that is great for them and their industry; however, they will find that it takes constantly re-inventing yourself and the things you represent. For the long haul, people should realize the importance of having a secure place to work that enables you to live the life you want. You can get burned out over long periods if you always live to work. State Farm enables you to get what you need to live, both as an employee and a customer. A tremendous compliment to the progress of society.

    Cons

The retirement benefits are a bit lower than some other companies and some people cannot handle the move to mid-Illinois. Those are really the only negatives to working there.

    Advice to Management

While State Farm's history is based on mitigating risk, sometimes in business it is good to break form and do something before competitors. State Farm was slow in getting our web site out there and the move from insurance company to financial institution. Granted, once they get there, they excel, but some of these changes could have been led by SF. They should be brainstorming on how to make the next iPod of the insurance industry. Not easy, but can be done.

    Pros

Strong benefits. Great opportunities to help shape the direction of the company and earn positions in leadership. Work/life balance is supported and the long-term benefits are fantastic.

    Cons

Sometimes employees don't receive the communications that are vital to there role from their management prior to changes or the supporting information around the reasons for the change. However, this can probably be said about most large companies with numerous individuals in leadership.

    Advice to Management

Continue to diversify into financial markets. As not only an employee but also a customer, the State Farm Bank and the level of service that they give is first class. This is an area where we should continue to look for growth opportunities.

    Pros

The benefits can't be beat! This company still cares about the folks who work here. Also, when the economy gets tough, our business gets busier. I feel very certain that my job will continue to exist. Most employees are very professional and intelligent. All things considered, it's a great organization to work for.

    Cons

State Farm is a very LARGE company. Hard to stay nimble and be flexible. The management style is still very conservative, but I think this has enabled us to stay strong and retain market share.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to expore work place options that will enable the staff to live hapily and productively in both the workplace as well as at home. We are a customer service company. Happy staff means happy customers!
