State Street is a performance based company that promotes the hardest workers

First Line Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at State Street full-time for more than 8 years

ProsThe best part of working for State Street is the managers are almost always people who not only excel at their job but are excellent with people skills. They try to get the most out of all of the talent that they have, by being accommodating to their employees.

ConsThe biggest con for State Street is that they do not have competitive salaries. The rest of the industry pays not just better, but generally much better than State Street.

Advice to Senior ManagementAdvice for upper management would be to work with HR to create more defined carreer paths for employees that demonstrate excellence in their job. Also to increase the pay in general, they lose a lot of good employees to competiors for simple financial reasons.

Big Company Normal

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at State Street full-time

ProsCompany has been around for many years so as an entity very stable. With thousands of employees and a worldwide presence there are opportunities in a variety of areas. Corporate takes a lot of care to share vision with all levels of the firm and to expose different divisions to eachother.

ConsLarge companies tend to move rather slowly. Great deal of corporate policy and procedure.

Great place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at State Street

ProsCompany is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment and has a number of programs aimed at ensuring its employees are able to contribute regardless of their background. Global company focused on changing and continuing to be the best in their industry.

ConsMid level managers are sometimes not as receptive, long term employees who are still stuck on the ways of the past. Not all but some.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to empower people more, reward accordingly and rethink how you compare with your competitors compensation-wise.

Pretty good company

Associate I (Current Employee)
Quincy, MA

I have been working at State Street full-time for more than a year

ProsRoom for growth
Relaxed Atmosphere
Ample Parking/ Easy access to public transportation
Work from Home access
Flex Time
If you are a hard worker, and get involved and noticed in the community, you can move up quickly.

ConsSalary!!!!

I enjoy everything about this job, except for the salary! It is almost impossible to live off of what they pay, especially if you live in the city. Also, they say that having a lower salary is complemented by being able to accrue overtime, however there is rarely any overtime available, so it is really a moot point.

Enjoyable for a time, but a career for most.

Client Service Associate (Former Employee)
Kansas City, MO

I worked at State Street full-time for more than 5 years

ProsI enjoyed the people and the managers (especially the hire you go) were very knowledgeable and usually pretty good at their jobs. The people are the main thing that made me stick around.

ConsThe pay is horrible which is why the company's turnover rate is so high. There are some that make this place a career, but it seems to serve as a farm system for better paying companies.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou get what you pay for. If you want more career bound employees pay accordingly. Employees enjoy the company, but turnover will always be a problem so long as you continue paying subpar salaries. Your presence in the community (regarding humanitarian efforts) is a positive one. Have you ever considered that compensating employees could also be interpreted as a good for the community as well?
