I have been working at Steelcase full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

As of right now it's just the hours but not the same in every area

    Cons

Worst pay ever. They favor the steel employees. The most common problem here is two people will be doing the same job but one is making 3 dollars more an hour just because he came from steel. A lot of the work is relied on the lesser paid employees. There is ALOT of (management, engineers) constantly walking around coming up with stupid ideas because their told hey think of something new for this area. Then their gone. Salary is getting raises yearly, the workers haven't received a raise in over ten years. The late policy now is a joke. You could literally lose your job from being a total of 6 seconds late

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pull your head out of your butts, lose a lot of useless overhead, quit supplying zone leader with the Internet, 20 plus bucks an hour to sit there and read the news and go to sites all day is a joke. The hr department is useless now. They fight against you the majority of the time when they should be neutral

I have been working at Steelcase full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good study (low) pay as long as it's not the day they need to reduce headcount and they call you into the office and tell you that you are no longer needed.

    Cons

Management only wants to hear from you if you tell them what they want to hear. Not what is the truth or what should be done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start reducing some of the excess layers of management. All they are interested in is being a puppet to protect their our jobs instead of doing what is best for the company.

Company says they are big on diversity but that is no where near the truth

I worked at Steelcase as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Great products and innovation on products. Company promotes department collaboration and team work. Well known company in the industry. Efforts are there to promote and increase employee morale but because the company is so big sometimes you feel a bit lost in the sauce.

    Cons

Large company with a very small company mentality, not always fair to employees especially contract employees, not all departments strive to be innovative and up to date on their way of thinking and addressing goals or problems. Training was extremely rudimentary. Little autonomy in position. People who work for this company are primarily individuals who have worked there for a long time and so the environment is very clickish and not very welcoming to outsiders (they act like you might take their job or something).

I worked at Steelcase full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Good overall benifits.
Advancement opertunities are available if you are in the corporate office.
Corperate offices and positions are well paid and have great benifits.
Relocation available when plants are closed.

    Cons

Plant closures and layoffs are a continuous possibility. Very poor management of local plants.
No Advancement opertunities in local plants. All management positions are filled from corporate or outside.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide local management that will work together with production workers and each other. Frequent conflicts between local management causes confusion for workers.

I have been working at Steelcase full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people around the country, decent support system, surprisingly interesting industry

    Cons

New hiring profile is now in place which is very different than when I started, so a different type of sales team is being hired. New organizational structure which doesn't make sense. Takes a long time to get anything done. No one is held accountable, no one takes full responsibility. Time is spent filling out reports for upper management, not selling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get more involved with your teams. Quit making more spreadsheets and mentor your teams.

I have been working at Steelcase

    Pros

People overall are great; many experienced dedicated employees put forth a good daily effort.

    Cons

Management, to put it bluntly, sucks. Older workers (35+) are being tossed out the window while they hire inexperienced, cheaper college interns or recent graduates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus is on money and money alone without apparent regard for dedicated employees; change that.

    I worked at Steelcase

    Pros

The product line offers a decent opportunity for young design professionals to develop their creative acumen. Locally, it's a friendly work environment.

    Cons

Employees are marginalized by a management group with substantial egos and insincere initiatives. You will be reminded almost daily that your counterparts in Kuala Lumpur are paid far less than you... Share holder value is king and the impact globalization may have on domestic salaries is quietly relished. The rhetoric is typical corporate hype...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. The focus is on share holder value and that's just the way it is at Steelcase - Coalesse, period.
