    Pros

They will hire anyone with no hazardous waste background or experience. The pay is better than minimum wage.

    Cons

You drive your own car, they mostly hire part time, but work you like full time. Little and bad training,

I worked at Stericycle full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The people were great! I loved the comrodery from my coworkers and competitive fun vibes from a rep level. Great benefits and great people.

    Cons

No accountability from upper management. There was never an explanation as to how quotas were set or why they drastically changed month to month team to team. There were many different teams all said to sell specific services that Stericyle could offer. However, this was not the case at all and some teams were able to sell everything and other teams were not. This caused a huge discrepancy on quota achievement. Those teams that had the ability to sell different services had a higher chance to achieve quota than someone on a team who was only allowed to sell one specific service.

The metrics assigned to the entire sales floor were also unattainable depending on what team you were put on. Some teams had all agreements automatically generated from the CRM used and other teams had most of the agreements they used from a "fill in the blank" word document. This once again caused metric goals to be unattainable since the amount of administration work was so high. When managers and upper management were asked how these metrics were decided on they had no answer. The historical data from the teams can show what teams are able to attain the metrics and teams should have different metrics based on services they were allowed to sell and amount of manual agreements they had to work with day to day.

At the end of my years at Stericycle I realized how much they had taken away from their sales reps instead of how much they have been giving back. Sales reps at any other company are viewed as the main drivers in success of the company. The compensation plan is capped and the contests they did were less and less.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management would benefit from actually answering more questions honestly to cause some trust with the employees. Having some answers to the "hard" questions would truly help the culture and morale of the employees. They would feel valued and understand where the company is headed and why decisions were made as such.

I have been working at Stericycle full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Medical and Life insurance costs lower than most

    Cons

Horrific customer service, communication and organization practically non-existent. Too many hurdles for drivers to be able to get job in timely manner. Incompetent management/

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop short changing employees by having them use outdated trucks, equipment, supplies. Have some previously experienced drivers actually plan out the routes on the tracking system instead of office people who have never driven a second of their lives as a commercial driver. Take the time to actually act like you care about employees, as this "culture" crap sure went away on a wimper. Stop worrying about pleasing stupid stockholders to drive up the stock price and refocus on keeping your dwindling customer base happy by not overcharging them with all this add-on charges.

    Not the greatest call center

I have been working at Stericycle full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You have the option of being scheduled around your availability since the call center is a 24 hour operation. Ample overtime available.

    Cons

Although you pretty much choose your availability, please be understand requesting a change in that availability is non existent, you know because life is so predictable and you should know before you take the when things will go crazy in your life. To make a long story short, Stericycle is a good company to work for, if you do not work in the Comsol division. Otherwise expect to spend your time answering calls for some of the laziest clients in the country who almost never return phone calls thus making you a punching bag for their furious customers. Training on new accounts can be done in a much better fashion. And please don't expect to breeze through your script without some form of freezing on the computer. Management is cool, if you're a "favorite." How do you become a favorite? Come to work, work every possible they ask you to work without any regard to your home life, don't ask any questions unless it's pertaining to call taking and under no circumstances should you voice your opinion about team leads or call floor operations. This is really not a position to have for more than 2 years or 4 years if you need the cash while you're in school. Giving 2 years is pushing it. If you take the job simply because you're down on your luck, you better pray something better comes a long soon or you'll definitely be stuck. The call center agents take on many different roles and don't really get paid for the work that is being done. I mean one minute you're a receptionist for a doctors office then the next you could be troubleshooting, then the next call you're giving advice on how to properly use car wax. It could be a nice position to build experience, but definitely nothing more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

One Team One Goal and Enjoy Your Work are just words they put on a t-shirt. It means absolutely nothing to management in the call center. There is no one team. Everyone is out for self, again unless you're a favorite. And forget enjoying your work. In a 24/7 call center, there is no time to enjoy anything but those pesky callers. Management needs to focus on making the environment more employee friendly. Also management needs to focus more on hiring from within by providing the call center agents with ample opportunity to move up in the company.

I have been working at Stericycle

    Pros

Great flexibility for hourly employees and contractors. Enjoy team members management not so much seems untrustworthy. Trying to improve the culture in the call center but that's going to take a while.

    Cons

Call center management do not coach and develop employees to grow in the company. No consistency from team to team or within various departments. There's no training manuals or handbooks when you're promoted, transitioning from hourly to salary is terrible since management make up the rules as they go but will not respond in email when questions are asked so there's no paper trail.

I worked at Stericycle full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Learned a good deal about basic haz waste management. Was good to serve the community in that capacity. The guys were great.

    Cons

The current manager is simply the worst boss that I have ever had. He won't hesitate to berate an employee in front of a customer and sometimes appears to have a flippant attitude toward safety. Very high turn over rate at this site.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Replace the current manager with someone who can actually manage people.

I have been working at Stericycle full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and they tell a great growth store

    Cons

Favoritism is rampant. Field operations teams are good. The new culture thing is a joke. The management will retaliate if they feel you are not a "fit". This company had a really good culture then the new CEO and the culture crazy folks took over. The growth is fast without real assimilation of the new companies.

It's really sad to see such a lack of leadership with Charlie and his crew

I have been working at Stericycle full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The Company was bought out, and the insurance costs dropped a ton! People are nice. The health insurance costs are a little bit less the other companies in this industry.

    Cons

The pay increases even with a outstanding review are about 3-4 percent of current pay. The wage is slave labor to begin with compared to similar companies. Advancement and training on HARD accounts results in no pay increase. Vacation time does not roll over. You are unable to cash it out. It is a loose it or use it item. Tuition reimbursement require you stay in your current position for a year upon graduation-handbook differs slightly on this, but contacted HR directly to get answers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The pay is way way way to low. Do some research here please.
