Current Employee – been working at Stryker
Pros – Challenging job and fairly compensated (acceptable)
Cons – No life. Many times, I just shake my head on the decision made by upper management when it comes to promotions, hiring and etc. You have to manage up. If you don't you are basically screwed. There are lots of people like the talking part but when it comes to the walking parts, nobody shows up. There are major structural issues but yet there are no action plans put in place to fix them. I feel we are doing the same thing but expecting different results.
Advice to Senior Management – It is not going to go anywhere. What is the point?

Former Employee – worked at Stryker
Pros – Good benefits, you can learn about the medical device industry. Mostly friendly work environment and working with some talented (and young) people.
Cons – Hiring, recruiting process is awkward and can keep a lot of good people out. Seems not much of upper management is mostly in their late 20's. The lack of experience in leadership can show. Salary below average.
Advice to Senior Management – Offer better incentive (or pay!) to keep good people from moving onto other companies.

Current Employee – been working at Stryker
Pros – This is a good place for those who are just starting out in their careers. The company is very good at encouraging career growth/personal development and allows for quick career advancement and opportunities to work in different functional groups. Job security is also very good which is especially important in these difficult times.
Cons – The company is often only focused on the short term which means a long term strategy and forward thinking gets lost in the quest for meeting every quarter's financial goals.
Advice to Senior Management – Focus on retaining current employees by challenging them with interesting work and providing them with attractive long term career paths as is currently done at many other Fortune 500 companies. The constant cycle of hiring and re-training new employees to replace those who have left the organization will ultimately make it difficult for Stryker to truly become a leader in the marketplace.

Current Employee – been working at Stryker
Pros – Well-known, diverse company, with mostly good products. Stryker goes through a pretty deep recruiting process, which makes for a great group of lower level employees. Looks good on a resume for when you decide to jump to a better job.
Cons – Wages are not as competitive as they like to think. Some products are over engineered and focus shifts from quality to flashy and stylish. Company progress is geared almost exclusively to stock-holders, whatever looks good on paper to bring in more investors. Not much thought given to "investing" in employees anymore. Promotions are not based on performance or ability, but connections in management.
Advice to Senior Management – Business growth and profitability cannot be achieved without investing some time and money into the current employees. Actual training and a more competitive salary can work wonders at a time when profits are up and morale is low. Sitting on cash and buying out other companies does nothing for the people busting their butt every day.

Pros – Only one competetor and there are real differences between the companies. The stretcher line is by far the best and the beds are decent. however, the took the stretchers from the reps and started a new salesforce. This is a 100% commission job with NO expenses paid. Hospital bed deals tend to be large and one may get you to quota. But there is no compensation between bed deals with the stretchers sold by another sales rep. It gets very scary if you trying to feed your family. when you win, you win big, when you don't, you starve.
Cons – Management only wants to know that you are on board with their ideas. they LOVE "YES" men/women
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to reps input and create some sort of revenue to bridge the gap between bed deals
