    Terrible

Sandwich Artist (Current Employee) Boston, MA

ProsFree food, nice customers. Making sandwiches was fun, the best thing about the job.

ConsNo training at all. Rude/unqualified managers. Too much work for too little pay.

Sandwich making is like only 5% of the job, the rest is cleaning and cleaning and cleaning. The manager did not train me at all, and just told me to watch and then expects me to have learned everything. I got told to go clean instead of make sandwiches for customers so I can get better at it.

Advice to Senior ManagementChoose managers well, and make the training better. The manager I had swore a lot, and yelled at employees in front of customers.

Working in the back I found the sanitation to be beyond Gross.

Subway Sandwich "Artist" (Former Employee) Phoenix, AZ

ProsFree reheated food. That's about all that I can think of.

ConsLet me start with the training. Non existant. Yep, they hire you and then let you figure things out. The managers have 0 control over their employees. I got stuck on a 8am to 5pm shift because one of the employees didnt show up. Called management and what do they say? "Could you cover the shift on your own? I cant get anybody..." Yeah, I'll totally get through the lunch shift by myself... Thats totally cool...

Not only that, but they expect you to overexceed your type of work. They want you to mop, sweep, clean everything and sell food to the lunch shift. It's ridiculous how much people we had on the lunch shift. Not possible.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet an clue on what your employees go through. It's not fair that they have to go through all that garbage just because you cant manage shifts better. Get it right...

Subway Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) Sacramento, CA

ProsEntry level job that will hire most anyone and no grease fryers or heavy equipment maintenance most commonly found in food prep.

ConsDelusional management that wants full time qualified employees while paying and providing part time wages.

    Horrible moody customers.

Subway is a great first job but there is no room to grow.

Sandwich Artist (Current Employee) Arlington, TX

ProsThe hours are flexible and the managers aren't hovering over your shoulder. Very easy job.

ConsThere's no room to grow and work can be exhausting if busy and sometimes subway is understaffed and it can be difficult to work with.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou should provide more raises and benefits to your employees and help your employees to grow.

    Terrible

Subway Sandwich Artist (Current Employee) Semmes, AL

ProsEntry level pay is slightly higher than minimum wage; the work is not terribly difficult; and there is an opportunity for pension and retirement if you plan to be employed here that long.

ConsEvery Subway is franchise owned so management is poor, especially in rural areas where health inspectors rarely give surprise visits.

Advice to Senior ManagementWatch your rural stores closely; watch your management; stop putting chemicals and wax on your 'fresh' food

    Lots of nepotism and abuse.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsA step above other fast food jobs.

ConsMy boss was famous for making his employees cry. Your job depends on how popular you are. Expect to work for free.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees like people. You might not have such a high turnover rate if you do.

Very unsanitary, I was the only clean person there, really bad pay, didn't keep their word (liars) and more.

Certified Senior Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) Omaha, NE

Prosnone really, except if you worked more than 2.5 hrs you got a 6 inch sub.

ConsVery dirty, treated me very bad, didn't keep their word( lied alot) things break keep forever to fix, very unsanitary, bad pay, I was the only one there that cared about my customer, everyone else t from coworker to manager to owner didn't give two flyin' flips about customer, always running out of product and more...

I was called about a day or two after submitting an application online. BIGGEST mistake of my LIFE !

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsNone ! People just want to make money even if that means re-selling a sub. I will never buy a sandwich there again. Quit while you can.Hiring person may be nice but do not be fooled the others are not very kind.

ConsRude customers as well as the people you work with.
NO benefits at ALL specially if you are training.
The bosses/other workers are VERY pushy all the time.

Advice to Senior ManagementHigher nice workers not rude uptight ones.

Most incompetent manager I've ever had. I'm 49 have had multiple jobs

Subway Sandwhich Artist (Former Employee) Palmyra, NY

ProsIt was the perfect part-time weekend job.

ConsLied to about hours, Prevented me from signing on a contract with a company for which I wanted the part-time job for to cover expenses
Prevented me from working at any other full time job. While only promised 2 days a week. Was told I had nothing better to do repeatedly
Repeatedly kept telling me to come in on a shift I said I could not work. Was fired for not coming in on my day off. They were not short of help had someone there for the shift That called me swearing at me.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey need a cook to stay organized. Cooks order food make food take inventory receive orders answer phones. It's total chaos that the manager dumps her responsibilities on the help. She's inconsiderate calls people liars and expects people to work free, 16 hour days, lies to you on the interview. When somethings preventing you from doing your job she tell you she doesn't care. Cries her jobs on the line all the time. Its not my responsibility to help her keep it. or miss breaks because she's piling to much work on or isn't considerate of the excess time it takes when a coolers down. Beyond your hours of operation the place isn't your problem or responsibility reguardless of how much work isn't done. The drawers being manipulated. Anybodies allowed in it your not allowed to count it. Its left all night where anybody can get it. And you learn all of this after your told if your drawyer off your fired. No sane person would work under those stipulations or even want anything to do with the place. Your told I'm hiring your but you might not be able to keep your job. Which told me I was going to be fired before I got hired. And reminded again a week late. Then told a health inspector wants you fired after that. When she got in trouble for something a staff member trained you to do. By the time she's done you realize she's lying. Then says see I saved your job. PLEASE DONT
