    At least it's a job

Sandwich Artist (Current Employee) Warren, MI

Pros-Easy enough to learn everything relatively quickly.
-There can be slow periods that offer some time to take a break.

Cons-Management seems more concerned with the bottom line than the morale of employees. I often feel as though I'm not human in their eyes, only an entity used to increase their profits.
-Often the store seems understaffed, as management will not allow more people on a shift if it cuts into their profits. This creates a very stressful environment with too many things to do and not enough people to do them.
-Very little praise for doing things right, and lots of scolding for doing things wrong or making mistakes.
    -Lots of petty workplace drama.
    -Very little opportunity for growth.
-Policy states that there is no free food and no breaks for employees, even if they work 10+ hour shifts as I have often been required to do.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees like they're human. Pay them fair wages and allow breaks, even if it means another employee has to be there and cut into your precious profits. When morale is high, your employees are more productive and happy.

This job is a great first job, but hours, pay, and mamangement suck

Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) Lowell, NC

ProsThe management is general good with working around school schedules and scheduling time off in advance.

ConsThe pay is low, the customers are rude, management always runs out of product because they dont order enough to get their "bonuses"

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit worrying about your bonus checks when ordering inventory and just order what you need. You get the entry level employees yelled at by customer.

Only work at a Subway if you have nowhere else to go.

"Sandwich Artist" (Former Employee) Turners Falls, MA

Pros-You learn how to order a proper sandwich, should you have the mispleasure of ordering one in the bright future ahead of you.
-You are alone most of the time and they didn't reprimand dancing around the store with the music up while closing up.

Cons-Manager(s) frequently overlooked raises and needed reminders when raises were up
-Inconsistent treatment of employees on grounds unrelated to work performance
-Mixed bag of coworkers (This was not necessarily a bad thing aside from the few crazies sprinkled in.)
    -Completely inconsistent scheduling
    -Disregard of safety of employees
    -Disregard of health codes
    -That smell.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagers often had too much going on to care about issues like scheduling or showing up to their shifts. Consider advancing

    expect a lot of you

Sandwich Artist (Former Employee) Upland, CA

ProsThey worked with my school schedule

ConsThey expect you to train new employees and give you a gift card instead of paying you more
They'll add more things to do to your shift and still expect you to finish on time

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't expect to add more stuff to do within the shift and expect it to be done on time

Your typical Subway with as much drama as high school.

Store Manager (Former Employee) Warren, MI

ProsThe only things I took away from working here were; time management, helping me come out of my introverted shell, multi tasking, faster working speed and a few of the relationships built with other employees.

Cons- Pay; Yes 10/hour seems a lot but for all the responsibility/requirements of the job it's just not ideal
    - Raises are pretty much non existent unless you are bumped up to either a shift leader or management of some sort ALSO you begin at min. wage unless you have experience
    - Upper management is to scatter brained to know what is going on with each store. That being said the franchise I worked for was operating 20+ stores with only at the time of my departure 2 General Managers.
    - Employees hired in are not always the ideal candidate for the position and cause more problems then wanted.
    - No benefits what so ever. No holiday pay other then time and a half if you want/have to work on either Easter, Christmas or Thanksgiving.
    - Managers are expected to cover any shift that someone has called off on if someone can not find a replacement. So you can work anywhere from you typical 8-10 hour day to a 14-24 hour day.
    - Left in the store alone. (ex. 7-10:30/11am or 7/9-11pm)

Advice to Senior Management- Higher pay for employees, more raises, bonuses from managers
    - Better eye when staffing employees
    - Promote more employees to management and managers for upper management positions (2 managers per store and 1 GM per 2-3 stores)
    - More involvement with employees. Maybe do little work shops a couple times a month on baking bread/ food cost/ sandwich construction etc.
    - No more having employees working alone. The number one reason why this happens is because of cost of labor to number of customers but if that's the issue maybe there should be a change in hours of operation.

    Such a bad first job.

Sandwich Artist (Current Employee) Phoenix, AZ

ProsHonestly, I dont have many pros for this place. I got food all the time and wasn't physically abused. Worked with my schedule.

ConsMy owner discriminates against the workers in terms of who she likes the most. If she doesnt like you then you will not advance. Even if you try your hardest. They have verbally abused many of the workers including yelling, putting them down and being VERY immature. I wouldnt trust them with my life. They shorted the workers pay a lot involving thousands of dollars. If you do something wrong you are not forgiven and seen as a bad person. They drove me to the point of not thinking I was good enough. If you are very much a different race then you will not get hired. If you are smarter than them you will be hated or not hired. They will agree to give more hours then completely act like they forgot. The owner also gives customers pretty much whatever they want. No receipt needed for exchanges.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease keep a closer eye on the owners. Open a subway complaint center on the website for not only for customers but workers as well.

Can be a great experience depending on who you work with just like anywhere else.

Sandwich Artist (Current Employee) Littleton, CO

Prosusually flexible schedules, typically short shifts, good first job. Fairly easy to have shifts covered, plenty of opportunities to pick up extra shifts.

Consinsane workload when busy, extreme boredom when not. Management is set up in a way that promotes backstabbing and trust issues. You work till you're done, not when your shift is supposed to end. No overtime. Labor laws are practically thrown out the window in regards to breaks.

Advice to Senior Managementconsider hiring extra rather than the bare minimum so that when someone quiets, their workload isnt thrown on everyone else. give sick days and proper breaks, it can be brutal work at times and we aren't machines.
