I have been working at Subway part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, Incredibly easy menial work. Not much to learn. Some good employees. Friendly, upbeat owner.

    Cons

No lunch breaks. Kept just below 40 hours so I cannot claim benefits. Sometimes I am asked to stay longer for overtime that I won't get paid for but if I put my foot down on leaving on schedule I get scolded. High turnover rate, underpaid, asked to stay longer without pay. Training is not paid for, required, and done in your free time at home. You also from time to time will not receive a pay stub with your check, that's usually when they short your hours so save and have all of your time clock verification from the register handy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees accordingly and they will care more about their job, don't lie about wages, or at least stop dumping overtime on employees and not paying them for it. Don't ask them to do everything if you aren't paying them to do everything. It's human decency.

I worked at Subway part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    - Not as stinky or greasy compared to other fast food restaurants (Wendy's, for example)
    - Free lunches, which is pretty righteous if you're a Subway aficionado

    Cons

    - The pay is not so righteous
    - This is a fast food job, so don't expect the work to be too glamorous (dealing with garbage, occasional cuts and burns, rude/creepy customers, etc.)
    - There was virtually NO training, from management or even from veteran employees. Sure, this isn't a place for rocket scientists. But there are things that rookie employees should be taught, like how to handle the tomato slicer, and how you should never, ever place your hands anywhere near the slicer if you're not using it (Hint: I had to learn this the hard way).
    - The backroom of the restaurant I worked at (location withheld) was repulsive. No one there cleaned the trays (which contain the toppings) properly; employees would simply take the trays when they were empty and toss them in stagnant dishwater and then dry them off. Disgusting. This was unfortunate not only because I was practically the only one legitimately cleaning the trays, but also because I have never eaten at a Subway restaurant since. I'm sure that this sort of thing doesn't occur at most Subway restaurants, but it was such an alarming experience that I'm a bit too afraid to even touch Subway's food again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train new-hires and make sure they know what they're doing. Keep an eye on your employees. Enforce all standing rules and regulations - they may not be fun sometimes, but they exist for a reason!

I have been working at Subway part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The only pro I can think of from working for subway about 5 years is the availability of jobs in a time when so few companies are hiring. Subway is always accepting applications.

    Cons

The main, and most important challenge of working at subway here in Columbus Georgia is the lack of his they are willing to give employees. It is mandatory for managers to schedule all employees with 20 work hours or less at all stores here; and as a parent of a 6 month old girl, and a 14 year old boy it's hard to support my family on that little income.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If employees are willing to work, hours be willing to pay them. I can say from my own experience there are people willing to work as many hours as they can while there are others who would work as little as possible if given the opportunity. Give good workers a chance to support their families; and stop thinking about your bank accounts, and start thinking about your dependable employees as well as the customers that supply your company with the business/profit you desire. I worked at Subway part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The people were fun to work with and the food was quite good.

    Cons

The management were morons. They lied to you if you did something wrong and then punished you for it by cutting your hours. It was inappropriate and unprofessional. The pay wasn't the best either, especially since they didn't provide any type of good raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you're gonna be a manager, be a manager. Don't hide behind lies because you don't want to face the employee directly with what they did wrong.
